Question:

Do you only use your driver at the driving range? Or do you practice with other clubs as well?

I'm just wondering. Do you only use your driver or 3 or 5 wood, or do you also practice with irons? Like a 2 or 3 iron...or maybe even an 8 or 9 iron? Would you get laughed at for doing this? When/where else are you supposed to practice with these clubs?

  1. I rarely, if ever, use my driver at the practice facility.  The rubber tee doesn't adequately simulate how I tee the ball.  I spend most of my time working on my iron game, with about 2/3 of my practice time spent on my short game (inside of 50 yards/putting).

  2. use any club you want at anytime from the practice range to the course to the bed it just dont matter. it's all up to u choose wisely

  3. You can use whatever club you want.  If the range is natural grass do your best to fill your divets with your irons...there should be sand provided.

A lot of courses have chipping greens to practice your wedges with though.  A few driving ranges actually discourage using drivers if they do not have ample room.

Have fun learning all your clubs!

  4. The range is for practicing and recovering your swing, nevertheless what club you're using. Yes, some golfer do use only their woods or irons because they wanted to train the clubs they are not good swinging at. Nobody will laugh at you, people who do are not wide minded but for god sake, dont use putter in the range then it would be a different story lol...you can always practice in the course itself but the range is where you can analyze your swing

  5. practice with every club

  6. I use about every club in my bag when I go to the range.  I start by chipping & then hitting full swings with the pitching wedge.

Once I'm warmed up, I pretend I'm playing my usual course.  Tee off with a driver, hit an iron, chip onto the pretend green.  Then move on to the next pretend hole.

  7. i use my driver the least

hit the clubs you use the most to stay loose and then practice with the clubs you struggle with the must and then move on to the rest of your clubs

  8. Driving Range Is Just A Figure Of Speech If You Like. Any Club Can Be Used. However, Most Place Dont Allow You To Take Your Bag In.

  9. i go on the theory that driver swing is the same as a 9 iron just a difrence in setup to so i ussually try to use clubs that in a presure situation wen i need to hit the fairway i will use so driver 3 wood 3iron unless im working on somfin mechanical then i ussually use a 4/5/6 iron its easier to make swing changes with there clubs i find otherwise i get discoraged

i practice my chipping and putting much more than hitting full shots coz thats were u use more strokes on the course

  10. You can usually tell the 30 handicap players at the range. They are the ones spending the whole time smacking their driver (and usually shanking every other swing) and never pulling any other clubs out of their bag.

Learning to be a good golfer starts with becoming comfortable with every club in your bag, and that means using them ALL at the range.

  11. It depends on what you're trying to accomplish.  If you're taking a few swings before your round I'd take a driver and a 7 iron, but if you're practicing then hit every club in your bag.  I can't tell you what I would say to someone who laughed at me for doing that on here because its vulgar.  When I would have long range sessions I would always start with my wedges and work my way up to the driver.  Another good thing to do to keep you focused is to think of course you're familiar with and just play it on the range.  I its a 400 yard par 4 hit a driver then an 8 iron then play the next hole.  At the very lease you'll look like you know what you're doing.

  12. use whateve ryou want.  for us weekend hackers :) some teaching pros a 40-40-20 approach to range work: 40% short irons, 40% long-middleirons, 20% woods.  that's not a set in stone thing, so if you need less help with long irons, but more with woods, tweak it to how you see fit.

  13. i practice everything at the driving range! it's not just for drivers lol =]

  14. I always start with an 8 or 9 as they are easier to get a tempo going with. Then go to a 7 - 5 -3 - 3wood and then driver.

The people who only use a driver at the range are not real golfers.

  15. I practice with most of my clubs, I generally start with a wedge and hit pitch shots, focusing on the feeling, tempo, and smoothness of my swing.  I then work my way up to a 9 iron, then 7,5, hybrid, 5 wood, driver then back down to the even number clubs, back to the wedge and then work on putting for a while.

  16. Lol, of course you're not going to get laughed at if you don't use a driver.  If you've ever been to the driving range you will notice that people hit all the different clubs; wedges, irons, drivers, woods, etc.
