what do you call that position where your job is to stock things up like canned goods, meat, etc?

I did work at Wal-mart.  Worst job ever.  Management was horrible.

That would be a stockperson.

Wal-Mart is now Walmart for their new marketing.  They no longer follow the 7 principles by Sam Walton(1918-1992).  

Safeway is not much better.

I suggest that you apply for work at both places and decide as my answer is biased.  By working for them you will get a more reliable answer which is your own judgement.  Be aware of their policies and culture and pay attention to how the implement their ethics, morality, and company guidelines.  You will be amazed of how vision and mission statements do not match how they practice.  It means do as I say and not as I do.
