I heard they are expensive, but it might be worth the money for a senior with bad legs and back. Have you heard much about it? Thanks.

**Note**...Yahoo wanted this question to go in "Newborn Babies"..ha ha ha ha. Poor poor yahoo.

  1. i'm not quite sure what that shower is ,but:

for any normal shower u can get a bath chair or stool ,specially made for that purpose, plus a hand held shower ,not at all expensive ,and ure in business!!

here in oz u could buy this for considerably less than $200.or u might get gov.funded help.

if the shower is over a bath tub u need to get that removed , also subsidised . good luck.

  2. i want to get one for my mom as she has neuropathy but they started at 5000 !  wow!  i also believe that was uninstalled and no plumbing, needless to say that does me no good.  recently checked into this again and they would not even give me an idea of a price, so i figure it is even higher now.

  3. No I do  not have one - but I do have an oversized garden tub in the master bathroom.   I just put a white plastic chair in it, and added a hose to the shower head!    I can sit down and shower in peace and quiet now!

And it only cost around $25.00!

  4. Both my mum and my aunt have one, and they highly recommend them. It makes washing themselves so much easier.

I'm not sure where you are from, but in the UK the Social Services helped with the costs for installing the showers for both of them because of thier conditions....

  5. I knew a lady in Colorado that had one. I didn't see it but she told me about it.  She loved it.  She couldn't lift her legs enough to get into a tub.  She couldn't stand too long so she had a walk in shower with a built in seat.  Now I did see one when I was caring for the elderly and it wasn't real big, but she had plenty of room to put her seat in there and room to get up and turn around. She only had to lift her leg about 3 in. to get into it.

  6. They are expensive. I got a brochure about them, but for me I don't want one. I'm 71, have an artificial leg, but can still get in and out of the tub and mine is a jet-tub. I like to slide down to a semi lying position and you can't do that in those walk ins, they are not built for that.

  7. Those showers don't cost that much.  Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and look at them.  Now if you get one that has steam coming out of the floor and water shooting out of each wall.  Which you really don't need.  Its going to cost you a little bit more.  That is just something to tear up later on down the road.  What is going to cost is getting it installed.

Now if you are talking about that bathtub.  That has a door on it.  I wouldn't have one.  Unless I had concrete floors.  They may make it look good on television.  But I don't trust it.  That seal on that door is going to get old and crack.  And if you have hard wood floors.  You are talking about a lot of money in wood damage.

  8. We have one in the nursing home and I would love one in my own home. They are wonderful.

  9. I do and love it.  especially the part I can sit down.  comes in handy!!

  10. We looked at them, but the seats were small and ended up getting a large, regular walk-in shower and using a medical chair that goes in showers. This way, there is plenty of room and can be used with or without the chair.  It came to about $3,000 with a few extras included, like extra hold bars.

  11. I guess I don't know any well to do seniors because I don't know anyone who has one of those 'walk-in' showers.  I do know someone who can really use one but they are not financially able to get one.  For the record, if the makers of that product were thinking more profit, they should make it very affordable since most of the possible customers are seniors.  Older people are more susceptible to falls winding up with broken hips or death getting in and out of those stupid bathtubs.  Perhaps Medicare should think about helping people on Medicare to purchase 'walk-in' showers.

  12. My neighbor inquired about them 6 months ago, $10,000 so she checked into the seat that lowers and raises you in and out of the regular tub $1,000.  works for her.
