Do you remember who bought it for you?

Do you live near a large body of gravy to take it sailing on weekends?

  1. I own a complete set of Pfaltzgraph dinner ware for 16 in the tea-rose pattern, and also many matching accessories ( canisters, bread dish covered casseroles, veggie dishes, serving platters, salt & pepper, sugar bowl & creamer, spoon rest, butter dish, and on and on....

...and yes a gravy boat too.......and I use it whenever I set the table with my 'tea-rose' however....

I would love an everyday gravy boat......and I'll probably get a stainless steel one whenever I can remember it when I'm in Bed, Bath, & Beyond......it can be used for more than gravy....I will serve extra marinara or tomato sauce in it, once in a while I 'fix' my southern born hubby his fav...cheese grits & extra milk for the grits will go in the gravy boat...or sausage gravy & biscuits ( I make both from scratch, even the biscuits-he says it's the best he's ever had hahaha not bad for a 'd**n yankee') and the sausage gravy gets put in the gravy boat.....even if you're serving a dessert with fudge sauce , a little extra for those chocoholics hits the spot.....

.....and on occasion I have used it to hold a small floral arrangement on the breakfast or brunch table...why not. I often use things for something other than it was originally made.......

and no, I don't live near a gravy lake, but down south gravies seem to be served via the garden hose lol.....it's very 'gravy oriented' down here......I'll be more genteel and use a smaller container for serving.....

  2. I have a gravy boat. It's used every single time we make gravy, which is most times I make roast chicken, roast pork, roast chicken or roast turkey.  You can also use it to dispense chocolate sauce on desserts, drizzle frosting over cookings and    any number of other uses.  Works better than a measuring cup, but if you don't roast anything or ever make gravy, it's a waste of money.  The boat shape makes drizzling sauces much more controlled than a measuring cup.

Oh, and I bought it myself.  Never had a 'set' of china although I get my Mom's china when she decides to divest herself of it (she hasn't used it in maybe 15 years).

  3. no and no.  oh and don't register for that fondue set either.  you think you'll be all kitche and use it but you won't.  you'll return it for cash, just like we did . . .!

  4. The only time we use our gravy 'boat' is around the holidays, if we have company and set a fancy table...it matches the china. ☺

  5. Ah, good question, with thoughtful insight.

At first it looks like the query is serious... and one thinks, is this person thinking of buying one for a gift, or did they receive one and wonder if it is worth keeping.  Then the twist, we all love the twist.  We've loved the twist since Chubby Checkers in the 1950's.  I like checkers, especially if I have several crowned.  My tooth was crowned once, before it had to be pulled.  Pulled as in our legs thinking you had a real question. :)

  6. I do own a gravy boat, and we do use it... alot actually.  Mine was a gift from my future Grandmother in law???  She is a sweet lady of 93 yrs young, and on one of our visit to her she gave it to me stating that she wanted us to have it.  Its really old, silvery pewter kind of thing, but its very pretty.  We use it whenever we have a roast w/gravy, or a turkey w/gravy, or even a large chicken w/gravy.  It comes in very handy to put the gravy on the table.

If you don't use a gravy boat.... what do YOU use to put your gravy in???

  7. * Proud owner of a gravy boat.

    * Yep!

    * Yep, a wedding gift from some family.

    * Yes. We like to waterski behind it on our forks and then picnic on the island of mashed potatoes.

  8. we have two, yes two, that match our china. we use ours an average of once a week. but we use it for everything.... gravy, sauces (great for holding extra spaghetti sauce for pasta night), even applesauce or chocolate sauce when we have "make your own sundae" dessert nights. and we bought them ourselves to match the china set. :)

  9. LOL

Yes, it's useful, because at SOME point down the road you will be entertaining.

    mmmmm - poutine!

  10. Yes, I have one

I never use it- gravy is my least favorite food in the world

I think it was my friend from college, because it came with a set of plates and cups

I get seasick (or should I say gravysick), so no

  11. I have one and use it a lot!  but I am big into cooking.  when we have baked chickens, turkey, roasts, I alaways use it for gravey.  If anything it gets used on holidays!

Plus they work good hot cheese sauce and sunday toppings!

  12. If you plan on hosting a lot of dinner parties where gravy is served in the near future then it is useful. Otherwise you will probably never use it. We didn't register for one since we don't plan on hosting any holiday-type parties for at least a couple of years.

  13. I do not own a gravy boat.  I do not plan to ever own a gravy boat.  I was raised in a gravy boat-less house, and we all turned out just fine, even though my mother had to (gasp!) ladle out gravy from a bowl.  Gravy boats, like spoon rests, are superfluous kitchen items that people get you for your wedding when they don't like you.

  14. Yes, it came with the inherited china. Yes, I use it. It is china, and has an attached saucer, and it is big. You can pass it around the table, and not run out of gravy. Some boats are tiny, it won't do but for a couple servings.

  15. Yes

    Yes

    Yes

  16. yes

    no

    wedding present

    yes - in my dreams...

  17. At a wedding that I attended one year ago, the couple registred for a Lenox gravy boat that match their place settings.... but check this, it was $250.00!!!!! for a gravy boat. I'm sorry, but gravy is nothing but grease and gut drippins and it doesn't need a fancy gold rimmed porcelain container.

I really thought it was rididcuolus and very expensive for such an unnecesary item.

I do have a gravy boat, it's crystal and I bought it in Germany years ago for $15 dollars. I use it for Thanksgiving and Christmas only. I would never buy a gravy boat for myself or anyone else more expensive than that, it just doesn't make any sense.

    Good luck

  18. Oh, don't scoff. They're a great shape for gravy or anything of that consistency. If you're vegetarian it's still great for any sauce.

What do you currently serve sauces in if you don't have a gravy boat?
