  1. Ha,ha bumps.  Have you heard of the housing market crash?  Yeah--it's been very bumpy.  I don't think I want to own another house.  I am middle aged now anyway, but I tell ya, it is not the security you are led to believe.

If you ever buy, make sure you can pay it off fast.  Think about it, what good is a house if you are paying for it forever.

*Keep in mind older people had a different market than you have.  Those people never saw the market go down while they were paying on their mortgages.  We all work hard.

  2. not yet.

  3. Yes. It was somewhat stressful. Oh boy it is so worth it. You have something that belongs to you. You can do whatever you want to the yard. Decorate the inside anyway you want any color, etc.. It takes some careful preparation, sacrifices and such. But what an awesome feeling on Closing Day!!

  4. i wish i did. i still live at home:[

    lol.

  5. Almost!! My closing is July 25 (yahoo!).

It's been an emotional roller coaster to be honest. I looked at 15-20 homes altogether. I fell in love with one house, had my offer accepted and then the inspector found some major problems (it needed a new roof, pipes and windows - about $15,000 in repair work). The sellers refused to give one penny towards repairs so I had to walk away. :o(

Then I found this great town house 3 weeks ago and thankfully its a lot newer so no problems found during inspection (whew) and I'm actually getting a lot more house for the money so it all worked out in the end!

One piece of advice - make sure you have an out in your contract due to problems found during inspection and have your realtor compare the house you're bidding on with other homes that recently sold in the area so you know what a fair price to offer is.

  6. it was great we paid for it each month and worked hard and then we retired it was paid for i love it

  7. Yes. There was one little bump in the road and the rest was smooth sailing.

  8. Isn't it sad how unatainable everything has gotten lately? I heard somewhere that living with the parents till you're 30 is not uncommon, almost the new norm.

I also watched that documentary (I think it was called Maxed out) on showtime and it metioned that a 4 person family in the 60's and 70's actually had more disposable income than the same sized family nowadays. Isn't that insane?

  9. Technically the bank still owns it because I still about 5 more years to go before it's paid off. Owning a home is not for everyone. Remember that you've got taxes to pay, insurance, higher utilities, maintain. But, there is also a lot of benefits, like having more privacy, etc. If you rent then all you've got at the end of the year are rent reciepts. If you can afford to buy, then buy. You can always sell.

  10. My fiance and I just finished building our first home and there were definitely bumps but that's building! It might be stressful leading up to it and over the first few months to year, but it's so worth it being able to have your own place that you work towards paying off. The freedom is fantastic!!

  11. Yes, it seemed easier to buy it originally then to do an equity re-fiance  now though.
