I’m moving to Ireland relatively soon, I assume you have to pay a rate for rubbish collection etc ( Council Tax in the UK) What is this called in Ireland? and where can I find out more information on it?

Thanks

  1. There is no council tax equivalent here though as answered a charge for rubbish collection.  There are also charges for health care (unless you qualify for exemption) and charges for school books.

I moved to Ireland a couple of years ago and found the following websites very useful.

  2. Ireland is an island. What part are you moving to? If it is Northern Ireland then you pay 'Rates' - they do not pay Council Tax in that part of the UK.

There are no rates in the republic but you will have to pay privately for the removal of garbage.
