  1. The above answers are good but watch out for the import duties.  They can be 20% of the value of your car.

You should be exempt if you've owned the car for 6 months and are moving to Ireland permanently.  Be aware you'll need documentary proof of this!  You need to make an appointment and re-register the car within a few days of moving over.  If the Customs catch you they can fine you.

You will need Irish road tax and can claim a refund on unused months on the UK one.

UK mot isn't recognised and you'll need an Irish one when your car's anniversary comes around.

You can drive on your UK licence until it expires.

  2. If you are moving to the north you just notify change of address and it carries on as before. If you are moving to the south you will have to export the car from the UK to Eire and pay Irish import duty and VAT on the car then it can be registered in Eire. If you plan to be in Eire for less than a year you can use it with the British registration and you can drive on your British licence for up to a year.

  3. You'll need to get an Irish Motor Tax cert when you re-register the car. NCT is the Irish equivalent of MOT and is every two years for cars at least 4 yrs old.
