  1. Most of those companies that advertise on TV WILL take out commissions on buying and selling.  If you do it through your company, most of the time they won't take out the commission fee.  In general, yes, you will get charged, so buy a stock that you want to hold onto for a while, or else don't be a day trader with internet brokers.  That's how they drive their beemers or mercedes and you don't :-(

  2. yes

  3. Almost always yes.

When you go through a brokerage, you will pay commissions both when you buy and sell a stock. There is a way, however, to (sometimes) buy and sell stocks without paying fees.

Quite a few large companies sponsor dividend reinvestment programs (DRIPs). Some of them are free, while others have a small charge (often less than brokerage fees and commissions).

DRIPs are popular with some investors because it's a fairly easy way to do dollar cost averaging. There are some downsides, however. There can be harder to buy, and there is more paperwork. It can also get rather burdensome when calculating your taxes.

For more information on DRIPs, see the Wikipedia and Fool.com links below.

  4. I think if you do it through somebody like an investor or stock broker which you generally have to

  5. no
