I very occasionally play powerball- There are several states involved. I wait until it is $170,000,000.000- I'll be a Sure Winner then, huh? Like one in 3 billion, I reckon!

Only when the payoff equals the rewards.  The odds of winning in California is one out of 79 million, so when the pot gets to 79 million I play.  I also play the multi-state Mega Lotto only when the jackpot is over 100 million.  This is still less than an one to one payoff.
