i dont which is better.

UPS left a package of mine unattended when no one was home (but at least he left it in the back and left a note)

but the FedEx dude, (while we WERE HOME) just throws our package at the door and leaves...doesnt knock or even gently place it against the door.

so i guess i would prefer UPS

who do you prefer...and do you have any UPS/FedEx horror stories?

  1. I prefer FedEx partly because they have offices all over town so if I know I won't be home to accept delivery, I can have it sent to one of their offices and I can easily go pick it up.  They also (so far) have NEVER delivered a package crushed or lost a delivery.  My FedEx only delivers residence deliveries in the late afternoon after they've done the business deliveries which sometimes is a pain if you have other things to do.  But at last FedEx tries 3 times before giving up--and mine actually does try 3 times.

UPS on the other hand isn't as reliable.  Sometimes they leave packages who's packing states in huge letters what is inside (like 24" color flatscreen monitor) sitting right there at my front door where anyone passing by can see it and swipe it.  At other times, they won't leave something that I've asked the sending company to specifically indicate plainly on the shipping label to "LEAVE AT DOOR IF NO RESPONSE"--it's some minor thing that if it gets swiped it's no big shakes but UPS won't leave it.  They also will leave an attempt to deliver card, you wait all the next day for the delivery and they never show up, then you get a card saying they tried to deliver 3 times (which they didn't) and I can go way down to their main headquarters to pick it up within X number of days before they send it back--and if I had a car I wouldn't have needed things delivered to my house in the first place.  I've also received boxes that look like all their trucks ran over it--no apology from UPS or explanation.  But, I far prefer UPS to the U.S.Mail service which is out of control.

  2. I have had positive and negative experiences with both companies.  I have always used FedEx to overnight documents and UPS to ship packages.  The performance of individual drivers is the same as in any industry - the level of service and dedication may vary from one employee to the next.  Both my FedEx guy and UPS guys are great.

  3. In my experience UPS is the best. Fedex is the pitts of aggravation.

  4. We live  out of the city. Here UPS is the best. They always come to the door. When they leave a package they try to have it out of the obvious site of the road.

FedEx will just put it over the chain link fence, always. I hate it. Someone can see it and take it. So I have to be watchful and be home for it. That is very inconvenient.

The same for USPS. We get our mail delivered by the postal worker in the vehicle, it is put into our mail box on the road. They won't deliver a package if you have a gate. They aren't allowed to open it. (Different than walking routes with gates) So they honk the horn and if you don't come out they either put it in a bag and put it over the fence or leave a note.

Unlike in the city where your front pouch and window is close to the street we have some distance. Someone could drive up and grab the package.

That is why we have a PO. Box also. That is another $50 a yr. so we don't have identity theft.

The only problem I had was with a RMA to California with UPS and they delivered the package to a wrong place. It took 2 mo. to get my money.
