  1. Because I want everyone to get as bad a medical care as I get.

  2. I do not think that a universal health care system should be mandatory, or that citizens should be forced to pay taxes used for a government regulated health care system.  Those who wish to be a part of such a system should be able to sign up for and participate in the system upon request, and thus pay into it. But lets say that I prefer private health care for myself and my family, why then should I be forced to pay for a health care system that I not only do not want, but that I will not use?

Likewise, I think taxpayers should have the right to pay taxes towards things like welfare, social services, etc.  For example, if I decided I do not want to recieve social security when I turn 65, why should I be forced to pay into social security? It is simply not fair, and it is an abuse of power for the government to assume the right to take your money to do so.

  3. could you personally walk by while someone was in need of medical attention???

universal health care should be mandatory everyone has a right to proper medical care....and it wouldnt  cost as much as the 1 trillion dollar iraq war...so??

  4. no.

by virture of the simple fact that anything the government touches immediately nosedives efficiency-wise, and corruption increases exponetially.

the private sector is a better conveyer of services to the public.

  5. No

Have you ever seen the government do anything correctly

  6. There are certain things the government does better than private groups. We don't have private firefighters, and most of us don't have private police departments. We don't pay private companies to pave just the section of road in front of our houses. A system of private providers of those services would be a mess, kind of like the mess our health care system has become. We spend way more per person on health care than most countries, and we have almost 20% of our population is still uninsured? That isn't a good system.

I have a great insurance policy through work, but I pay roughly $200.00 per month for the premium. My employer pays roughly $800.00 of the total cost. Then I have a $750.00 deductable on top of it, and whenever I go to the doctor, I find that not everything is covered anyway. That's over $13,000.00 per year that my health care costs! It probably comes out to $1,000.00 for every time a member of my family gets sick, and that doesn't even count any government subsidies that I pay in taxes.

That's just crazy. Our system is so messed up, I want to see it fixed.

Unlike a lot of people who are of the opinion that they have insurance, so s***w everyone else, I actually care about the entire American population. I wan't to see everyone covered, and if I have to pay for it with my tax dollars, I don't care.

It's a disgrace that a country as rich as ours has as many as 50,000,000 people who can't even go to a doctor when they get sick.

  7. In some countries, health care is considered a human right, here it is NOT. We allow people to die simply because they do not receive any preventive care, They wait until the illness advances and finally go to the emergency room to treat the symptoms;  then,  they are turned out ASAP.  Basically the emergency room is the ONLY resort for people with no money and no insurance. The federal gov picks up the tab, in various ways (hospital tax breaks). The society already pays for "socialized medicine" in this manner. The current for profit system ENCOURAGES insurance companies to NOT INCLUDE sick people in their coverage (pre-existing condition)..kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it? Oh, but the purpose is to make PROFIT.

Imagine if our police or fire protection were provided in a similar manner. What would it cost to get the police out if your house was being broken into? If someone stole your car? The cost of the investigation must be factored in.....maybe we would provide insurance to help pay the cost...but pre existing conditions must be considered. If one lives in a high crime area, then the rates would be very high, if you could even get the coverage. If you cannot afford the insurance, well then you have to pay on your own. Whats that? you have no money, or credit? Sorry, but we cannot help you, FREELOADER. Same story goes for fire protection.

Fortunately, we do not use this type of model (yet) for these services...we do not worry what it "costs" to do an investigation, or arrest criminals, or fight a fire..maybe save someones life...we simply DO IT.  Its not free, but it MUST be done.

This model should be applied to healthcare...just DO IT. One doesn't need federally owned hospitals and doctors...just a SINGLE PAYER system that pays private hospitals and doctors directly, just like private insurance does now; except there is no profit motive for the provider of the insurance, no INVESTORS to make profit for, and no need to disallow someone's necessary medical care. Further, over 30% of every healthcare dollar is spent on administrative overhead in private insurance compared to just 3.2% in Medicare administrative costs. (Institute for Health and Socio-Economic Policy) .

The only reason that we do not institute Universal healthcare is because of insurance company propaganda,  right wing repugnican, corporate kiss-butt  knuckle draggers, and finally COMPLICIT, SCARED, democrats...with a lust for power.

  8. Not sure we have never tried it in the U.S. but I do think that American can do universal health care better then the other countries.

  9. It depends on what you mean by "universal health care". There are many such systems in the world and they VARY a lot.

I think Obama's plan, which isn't very much like most "universal" plans, is a good one.  It offers affordable (not free) coverage to people who have no coverage or who are paying unsustainably expensive rates for coverage.  This will work well for small business owners and others who are self employed.  Small firms often don't have coverage OR the premiums are so high people struggle to afford them.

  10. I have seen successful examples of universal healthcare in other countries.  Believe it or not, China has one of the best.  They each have their drawbacks but none can compare to the serious drawbacks of our own health system.

People fear change sometimes especially when they erroneously believe it will lead to a socialist government.  We need to take care of our nation and that starts with good health for alll.
