Do you prefer male or female rats?

Question

people always told me that males were agressive and that they smell alot. well a couple of months ago, i bought my first 2 rats, both males. they arent agressive and they dont smell 1 bit. what are your opinions

i prefer female. They can be very usefull. Having babies and then selling the babies. Those people are right. Males do tend to scwabble alot and are quite agressive but females can be quite agressive even more then males. But females are lovely go for a female

I have two females and I have played a lot with male rats.

I have found neither s*x aggressive.  It matters more how much you play with them and socialize them.

I think it depends on what you're looking for in a rat.  Girl rats tend to be more active and curious, they don't really like to be held and rather crawl all over you.  Boy rats are a bit more lazy and don't mind passing out in your lap or just laying their while you pet them.

As for smelliness, I think it has more to do with how much you clean up after your rat than anything.  Male rats do tend to mark their territory more, but if you clean up after them regularly, they shouldn't be super stinky or anything.

I love my girls though...best pets ever!

I've never had more than one at a time but I like males more. I found my male to be more gentle. LOL He played as a youngster then liked to be combed as he got older.

I opted to had female then a male then a female again. Wish I had gone for another male.

If you want a rat that is adventurous... get females! If you want a lap that will sit in your lap... get a male rat. I personally prefer females because boys have that specific area that just hangs down and it is gross! Unless you get them fixed!

I have 5 males, I've never had females, so I can't really say. :P

But my boys are all sweethearts, and they do play rough with each other sometimes but they're pretty much dolls to me, and they never hurt each other. Sometimes they'll mark, but they don't smell particularly bad. :P I love my boys! I don't know whether I just got lucky, but none of mine are all that LAZY either! :]

My Boys are Wonderful, My daughters Girls are wonderful, but my 8 boys are tamer, cleaner and make less mess than my daughters 2 girls, My daughter says she prefers my males, as hers are always lively, So looks like a thumbs up for males at this end...........

i cant say which is better as i've only had 2 female rats, i love them to bits and they do smell a little at the end of the week but which animals dont? mine arn't aggressive :)

All this stuff people are saying about males smelling and being aggressive, and fighting, is a complete load of c**p. You've seen it yourself, you have two lovely boys. :) Don't believe it.

I've owned rats for over 5 years and have been breeding since the beginning of this year. Personally I prefer males because I find they get along better than my girls do and are less up-and-go-at-it! Sometimes my girls can be hard to handle. I have a big soft spot for my men. :)

females coz they arnt as nasty but if you have them have the snip there ok but i still like females coz they dnt smell as much
