  1. Since I am 60 years old, I am used to the millibars. But it didn't take me long to go over to the hectoPascals.

One thing I didn't like that much with the millibars, though, is that it is said to be a thousand of a bar; which is one atmospheric pressure. But the average pressure worldwide is 1,013.25 millibar. In that sense, using hectoPascal is less confusing.

Another thing that changed recently is the old Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) that became UTC thanks to the French who would do anything to remove any reference to England in any standard. Did you know that they kept using Paris as a longitude prime meridian until the beginning of the 20th century? That meridian is actually used in the plot of "The Da Vinci Code."

  2. Working as a Meteorologist for most of the last 23 years, I have become used to both mb and hPa.  Have not really given much thought to it.

If I really had to choose, I have been writing all of my forecasts using hPa, and all of my analysis' using mb.  So I guess I am an advocate for both.
