  1. I personally prefer having my own class.  Although collaborating with a group of teachers is nice for ideas, it is much easier to be the one doing all the planning and implementing because you know what you are looking to achieve from the lesson and you know what you are doing.  With a co-teacher, it can be difficult if you have a conflict on style of teaching and so forth.

  2. Co teaching is great if your co teacher and you have the same philospohy and enjoy working together.

I have an assistant now and she's great- Getting along with her is just as important as it was for a co teacher. When you teacher with other -you have to respect their style and have a sense of humor.

  3. We teach as co-teachers at our preschool.  But, I do all the curriculum - we just split the day up. If I do opening and music one week, I will switch to craft and art the next week and vice versa.  So, maybe you would call that a lead and assistant since I do all the planning. I do not consider my co-teacher like that though -I consider her my complete equal.  Good question, Poor Pearl!

  4. I prefer teaching with another person as a co-teacher.  At my center, we are treated as equals.  Everyone takes part in planning and implementing the curriculum.  I worked for several years as a assistant teacher.  I did not like it because I was treated differently.  I always was in the background as the little helper to the lead teacher, but was never involved with the children.  So I didn't enjoy it. So I like being a co-teacher.
