related to the book by Milan Kundera - lightness would refer to a life that is not held down by any responsibility or duty, it is wafty, floating in a breeze, but full of philosophical undertones. heaviness might aptly be referred to as the condition of being relied upon by another, in that without you, they would suffer... but despite the heavy responsibility, your life has more meaning...which would you prefer?

  1. Actually I prefer the blinding darkness or the sweet sourness of life.  Mixing metaphors produces snags on the silken stream of thought and runs in our nylon consciousness.

  2. i would prefer lightness...to go where i please and never be tied down to anything.

but i love my life and with it comes all of my responsibilities and my family so if i had to choose, i would pick heaviness of being.

  3. unbearable lightness of being.  One of my favorite books.

  4. I would go for the heaviness of being. The unbearable lightness seems to leave out a lot of options including parenthood, long term relationships and commitment to a cause.

  5. Having done/been both, thus far the lightness has beating the pants off the heaviness.
