Trains are better for long-distance travel. Buses and light rail are better for shorter trips.

The one should be integrated with the other. This is the case in mainland Europe but sadly not often the case in the UK.

Depends on location in NY-NJ-Philly area.

I prefer PATH (Port Authority TransHudson) subway because it is very fast than NYC Subway.

2nd: MTA Metro-North, MTA Long island Railroad, NYC Subways.

3rd: Transport of Rockland buses. They're very smooth and super fast (feel like Roller Coaster)

4th: Bee-Line buses and CT Transit I-Bus:

5th: MTA Bus, NYCT, Long Island Bus

Depends how far one plans on traveling.

you can get up and move about

go to the bathroom and even wash up if you wish to

you can get a snack and somethign to drink

you are safer in a train (fewer injuries and death per 100,000 passenger miles)

better on the environment, trains move people for much less fuel then any other form of land based transportation

no brainer there

Trains every time!  They're much more relaxing and rarely wind up in a traffic jam, as buses frequently do!
