Question:

Do you pull to the right?

I'm a firefighter and a medic and it seems that no one knows what to do anymore when they see an emergency vehicle behind them. Is that question still on the drivers' test? I'm just curious how many different answers I'll get.

  1. It depends, i try getting out of the way anyway i can.

But people tend to get stupid when they see sirens, especially where i live. I live in a tourist town where people are generally lost, there for easily spooked, so when I see sirens I try to move without causing an accident of my own which would keep the cop/firetruck/ambulance from getting to their destinations.

  2. yes. but in some circumstances it's better to pull over to the left.

And sometimes it's better to move forward if you are blocking the emergency vehicle, then pull over.

  3. I pull to the right most of the time. Once when I was stopped at a red light, with only two lanes going through and a center divider and a fire truck coming up the rear, I ran the red to let it through. Other times it has been better to pull left but I made sure to signal to let the driver know what I was doing. Been doing this since 1968 and now its even more important that my daughter is an EMT while going to college.

  4. over here in britain all traffic sorta pulls over and stops when they hear sirens, but its not so much on our tests as you see your dad/mum doing it for 17 years till youre old enough to drive, so you just sorta know what to do. maybe its a youth culture thing with new drivers being stupider?

  5. yes!!!

  6. some people are just stupid

  7. Some people just don't think it matters if they pull to the right. Personally, I make sure there is plenty of room for emergency vehicles to pass if they have they're sirens on.
