  1. I don't, but those that take the art do use punches. =P

  2. yes we punch and also defence with hands in tea kwon do and in combat  if punch have enough power it have one point. if you had any question about tea kwon do i can answer you   my email is :mohamadalihastam@yahoo.com

  3. In my style at least, kicks are heavily worked on (more so than Karate), but hand techniques are still used frequently.

  4. depends on the style of TKD.  TKD mainly focuses on kicking and has some of the most flashy and quickest kicks out there.  punching is very linear and is not the main emphisis contrary to the name of the art.  In olympic taekwondo styles punching does not score as much as a kick.  I wouldn't say that there are just kicks in TKD, but I can say they don't emphize punching to the same degree.

  5. Yes. Both punches and kicks.

  6. Yes, there is punching. There is 75% Kicking and 25% Punching.

If you want even more punching in Taekwondo you must do ITF rather than WTF School.

An ITF(international taekwondo federation) school teaches punches to the head and body.

A WTF (World.....) school teaches just punches to the body

  7. you punch and kick

  8. I love this question...

Consider the name of the art: Tae Kwon Do. Tae, meaning to strike with the foot, Kwon, meaning to strike or smash with the hand, and Do, meaning Way. So, loosely translated, Tae Kwon Do means "The Way of the foot and the hand". Now, I will say that Tae Kwon Do has a plethora of kicks that can be employed in attack AND defense (yes, you can actually use a crescent kick to defend against an attack - gasp!!), but there are also a great number of punches and arm blocks that are employed in attack and defense. When people state that Tae Kwon Do is nothing but flashy kicks, they are basing their observation solely on WTF, Olympic-style TKD, and are either ignorant or misinformed as to what Tae Kwon Do actually entails.. And even WTF style TKD teaches hand attacks and blocks, they simply do not translate well to competition under the current rules set. However, not all TKD practitioners are involved in Olympic-style competition.

TKD not only has hand attacks and blocks, it also includes joint locks and manipulations, throws, and submission techniques if taught by a well-rounded, educated instructor. And, contrary to popular beleif, many of the techniques taught "standing" can be employed, and are just as effective, if the practitioner is on the ground. There is no hard and fast rule (outside of the ring/cage/arena/etc.) that says that IF I happen to end up on the ground I cannot snap a side kick to your knee, midsection, or face if you are silly enough to bend down to attack me, or that I cannot take YOU down with a sweep or scissor kick take down, or that I cannot rear up with a punch to knock you silly. In fact, my instructor regularly has us defend against an attacker while we are on the ground, or being attacked from behind. He teaches releases, escapes, and counterattacks from disadvantageous positions to show us that the techniques we learn while FACING an opponent standing can just as easily, AND effectively, be employed in other situations.

If I am in a fight that is NOT sanctioned by a sporting body, there are no rules; I will employ whatever technique is neccesary to ensure that I win the fight, even if that means you leave the area missing an eye, ear, or the ability to reproduce.

  9. you do both. also you chop and strike
