Do you "pick up" spirits? Do they get "attached" to you?

Seems like this is what I used to do. Guess I didn't have anything around me to keep them out. (Wasn't wearing my "aluminum beanie")Does anyone know how to prevent this? I'm going to be baby sitting in a historical house that has had reports of being haunted possibly. I sure don't want to bring any home with me! (Maybe I was carrying "empathy" to extremes.)

I am going to say they most definitely get attached to you, I had one attached literally to my body if you can believe that. I have no idea how it happened it just did and it wasn't a ghost either it was a demon.  Took lots of help to get rid of that critter believe me.  Ghosties and demons do exist and saying they don't is a lie if you have had any experience with them like I have.  Don't let the matter just sit do something about it or things can get worse and worse thing get attracted as well, that is how the demon got to me, complacency and acceptance of ghosts living in my home.  The demon was attached to me and it became  a part of who I was and am to this day. It will always be a part of me and it changed how I live my life.  It has taught me fear and it has also reminded me of my faith that is how I got rid of it faith and the help of people who knew how to do blessings.  Ghosties like the ones I had in my home were a part of my life as well.  They became in some ways part of the family, especially the little girl ghost.  The entire family saw her and accepted the fact she was here.  She played with me and kept me company, that is how the attachment started in my case. I still miss her and I think I always will.  Why all this happened no one not even the experts can explain and prevention, I haven't got a clue just be wary, don't end up like me.

Yes they do get attached - particularly to 'enlightened' folk who seem to show up clearer to them (radiating a higher energy - hence the halo's painted on saints)

I would recommend you read at least one book on Psychic Protection.

Most come down to a generation of a strong thoughtform- either the ball of light, hardening crystalising / shaping your aura, or cloaking. or assigning seals around and over you (one of which is the shape of the cross lol!)

It can be quite tiring to keep it up, and personally I have found myself isolated from any outside influence using some types - which is counterproductive sometimes.

The ball of light is especially good at removing attachment- as it pushes outward on formation- and keeps stuff out.

Wearing amethyst, silver or tigers eye should help, as would carrying or wearing one of the protective herbs.

yes it does happen. i had one and had to get help to move it along into the light. people even noticed changes to my mood an personality!

apparently the best way is before you go anywhere near the building, call on your guardian angels and ask them to help you place yourself in a bubble of white light.

imagine this happening - a perfect bubble of white irridescent light surrounding you and truly believe you will be protected. thank your angels 3 times.

They only get attached to you if you don't have a strong faith in the power of Christ, and don't have an indwelling of the Holy Spirit.  Only through him do you have the power to cast them away.

And you're referring to demons, ghosts and whatnot aren't real.

I would say mostly not.. I have been to plenty of haunted locations and never brought anything back with me, nor anyone else i know.. But there are cases of spirits been attched to a person, for particular reasons.. but not usually from hauntings..

EDIT ..what Marina is saying is when the person was alive, if they were somehow attached to you then, they will still attach themselves to you after they die....I had a man obssessed with me, he stalked in life, and when he died, (took his own life) before i knew he was dead, i felt something around me heaps, something not right, (energy), then his face emerged out of my wall (faded) it happened right in front of me , my sister and her friend...very freaky...and it stayed there for a week, everyone could see it, and it was his face, I had to paint over it..It was only a month later or so , that someone told me he was dead.. The weird part is i dont really feel him around me anymore....Some people when they die, they will refuse to let go, and attach themselves to you....
