  1. No just the 1&9 in place there is no order for the rest

  2. Nope  1 in the front and 9 in the middle.... although a lot of shooters like to put the balls in a certain order there is none necessary.

  3. nope

  4. no

  5. I have before. Sometimes it will depend on what you are playing. If you are playing a quarter on the 5 and fifty cents on the 9, then you would put the 5 ball in the back.

But, the basic rules state that the one goes on the spot, the nine in the center, and the rest randomly placed. Some players put different balls in different places in an attempt to get a quick snooker or poor layouts for the breaker.

  6. no, but the 1 ball has to be centered over the foot spot (the front of the group of balls)  and the 9 ball in the center.

  7. no 1 in front and the nine in the middle

  8. "The object balls are racked in a diamond shape, with the 1-ball at the top of the diamond and on the foot spot, the 9-ball in the center of the diamond, and the other balls in random order, racked as tightly as possible. The game begins with cue ball in hand behind the head string."

Imho, the two balls directly behind the 1 ball are the next hardest to sink after the 9, and then the 1 ball all the way at the back of the diamond is the next hardest.

  9. in a casual game of pool, you follow a pattern of stripes-solids in order to create an equal break.  start the front of the rack with the 1 ball over the dot.  always to the right of the 1 ball is another solids ball, and to the left is a stripe. in the next row it is solid, eight ball, stripe.  in the fourth row it is a stripe, solid, stripe, solid.  the last row is tricky, and to get it even you need to of the same in a row, but the two cant be both by the corner.  the easiest way is solid, stripe, stripe, solid, stripe.

  10. You can rack the balls in any order, the only rule is that they have to be in the shape of a diamond and the head ball has to be placed on the foot spot.  The reason most people place the 1-ball in front is because it must be contacted first because it's the lowest numbered ball on the table.  It would be a foul if it is not contacted first.  If the person racked the 1-ball in the back the person breaking would just ask for a re-rack.  The reason the 9-ball is placed in the middle is because the center position is thought to be the most difficult for the breaker to make the 9-ball on the break.
