Question:

Do you rate Felipe Massa?

What do you think? There are many doubters, and I am borderline now and used to be one. If you look at his scruffy driving style and constant accidents its easy to label him as not worthy of a Ferrari drive. But then you see performances like Hungary and race win trophys. And then you see what an idiot he is making highly rated Kimi look. Your comments please?

(Before his dismal performance at Silverstone me and my girlfirend saw him driving out of the golf club hotel to the track. Maybe it was my stare it put him off!)

  1. massa can be  hot  one race weekend  and cold the next  to be worthery he needs to be consistent at every race that  been said  he has been munch better than raikkonen this year but no way near hamilton

  2. .

He needs to be more consistent and aggressive in my opinion. He has the ability at some times and not at others; if he likes a track he can be superb, but he needs to concentrate on his weaknesses at other tracks and not consolidate on his strengths.

His aggression at turn 1 last race was a revelation, to him and also a shock to LH.

I think LH will win this season, but Felipe digging deeper could throw things in the air and keep the Driver's Championship very open.

  3. Hard to rate him really. He's a bit of a yoyo. One race he's brilliant the next you wonder who is driving his car. I think he just needs to be more consistent. He may have some issues with himself (too confident or lacking in confidence, whichever one) If he can overcome that, I think he'll be showing more of a good form rather than dismal performances at times

  4. I don't rate him overall because I don't think he has the grit and determination that would deserve a championship... He makes constant mistakes, and if he was in a lesser team than Ferrari I personally don't think he would shine so much (his days at Sauber were fast, but even more accident-strewn than now and the results weren't there either...)

He deserves credit for stepping up to his teammate this season... but making this Kimi Raikkonen look ordinary is very easy, so is this credit due? Silverstone was his nadir, but we have seen similar levels of performance in the past.... what separates the likes of Kimi, Lewis and Fernando as the best drivers in F1 is their consistancy, even with the odd blip that they all have, you can rely on them for a great race in the future, and I don't get that impression from Felipe (unless the Turkish GP is coming up... but you can't just be a master of one circuit)

So... I would say no I don't rate Massa compared to his 'peers'... Alonso, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Kubica....

  5. This year has been his most impressive by a huge margin.

I have never known a driver that has blown both hot and cold by such a degree.

He has a title in him but just the one I feel, this year could be it. His dominance from pole position can be impressive, he owns the Turkey circuit and I did shed a little tear the year he won Brazil (06).

On a personal note I find him a very likable person.

  6. I rate massa highly but i agree with other answers he blows hot and cold but it is mostly because the car doesn't have the pace most the time when he is having a poor race. I'm highly impressed the way that massa has changed his driving to a much smoother style since he has joined ferrari and michael schumacher helped him to become a complete driver. He has come far from his days in sauber where, even though there were impressive results, his driving style was scruffy and he was all over the place.

  7. Felipe is an interesting driver.

I'm a BIG Lewis Hamilton fan n when Kimi is front of  Lew i feel a bit down becoz i no kimi will win the race

Now wiv FM in front of Hammy in a race, i don't no wot is gonna happen n it makes it more interesting.

I don't like him, but i like him betta than Kimi.

  8. Maybe this is a question for F1 drivers.

I doubt anyone would say no, especially if the "penalty" would be a shoot out between him and Massa.

He has his flaws, but he has pure speed, he's been characterized for that all his racing career.

In fact he has so much speed that he can cover his other flaws.

His other ability we've seen is that of bouncing back from a disastrous race.

But then again if you have the speed that becomes so much easier.

I've always had a soft spot for fast drivers, not the best tacticians, not those who used their heads a lot, those who could go round a corner consistently quicker, and I feel Massa fits that profile.

He's perhaps not cut out for the cut throat world of F1 racing, that's Piquet or Prost for you, but I rate him none the less.

He did great at Sauber and I'm sure any team owner would want him in his team, not least because then he'd know what his car can do.
