Whichever euphemism you use they are all known alternatives for using God's name. It offends the LORD God.

  1. I don't think so. I'm saying Oh my God, like im excited or nervous or shocked. Not angry and cursing. If you swear and you are angry saying G** D***** then yeah you are. But then again I'm not a Christian that goes around trying to force religion down people's throat so maybe I don't know...

  2. I do and i'm fine with that cheers.

  3. It matters not to me, I'm an Atheist.

  4. christ thats bad

  5. Yes, I do realize what I'm saying, it doesn't bother me at all. 'God forgives, REMEMBER.'

  6. God's name isn't OMG or God.  Using the first words of the Catholic Act of Contrition as an expletive might be disrespectful, but the original commandment forbade the Jews from uttering the name Yahweh.

  7. What if I say "OYG" for Oh Your God?  Like Bender says.  He's funny.  Then I can be funny too, right?

  8. Yes, but I won't be losing any sleep over it.

  9. I often clarify it by saying OMGosh. I can feel then I make my point without anyone thinking I am being naughty. Even if God doesn't care, it creates a not good impression with loads of people.

"maybe not PC, but uniqely me"

  10. I hear Gordon Bennet's not to pleased either.

  11. Well Yeah if you are use to saying God. But if you say something else like Gosh or something...

  12. it should be 'og'. By using omg you are taking MY god as your own

  13. Yes, but I'm sure people don't mean any disrespect to God when they say it. It's just a way of expressing surprise, or shock.

  14. Yes, I do realise that.

Now if your question was: do I care that I'm taking God's name in vain.....

  15. Yes you're right. I use Oh My days or oh my gosh instead. I 'ave respect for God.

  16. To those who don't believe in God it's irrelevant.

  17. We are all taken in vain ,every time we pay VAT.To say that something, that almost everyone has said at some time or another, is taking gods name in vain is a very sweeping statement and certainly not strictly true.I know some very devout people who say it regularly.Evil and disrespect are only in the minds of those who are like that, certainly not the ordinary parishioner.

  18. OMG really!

  19. technically you are not. You are saying OMG the letters O M and G, there is no GOD in there. so based on that, no you are not taking Gods name in vain because even though you are referring to God you have actually not said it at all.

  20. omg really kidding

  21. Of course - do you think we don't know what OMG means??

  22. yeea i do know?

whhy doe it ofend you that we do?

because i think everyone has a righjt to say what they want face it we are teenagers and we all believe in what we what

    soooo OMG!

  23. First, I don't use that in that way because I HATE text speech. Secondly, when I use the term 'oh my god', which I do, yes I do realise I'm doing that and no I don't care.

  24. Taking God’s name or the name of Jesus Christ in vain means using the names as an expletive.

    expletive ( k spl -t v)

In Biblical term using the names of the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ and of God as an exclamation or derogatory term is taking the names in vain.

Those people that do so will be held Guilty at the Day of Judgement.

    Exodus 20:7

THOU SHALT NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD THY GOD IN VAIN; for the LORD WILL NOT HOLD HIM GUILTLESS THAT TAKETH HIS NAME IN VAIN.

This was so important that the command was repeated in Deuteronomy 5:11 see below.

    Leviticus 19:11-14

Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.

AND YE SHALL NOT SWEAR BY MY NAME FALSELY, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.

Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.

Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.

    Deuteronomy 5:11

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

King Solomon when he wrote the Proverbs said he did not want to take the Name of God in vain and then went on to describe the generation that would -

    Pro 30:8-12

Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.

There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.

There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

Jesus went on to say –

    Mat 5:33-37 (MKJV)

Again, you have heard that it has been said to the ancients, "You shall not swear falsely, but you shall perform your oaths to the Lord."

    But I say to you, Do not swear at all! Not by Heaven, because it is God's throne;

    not by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet; not by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King;

nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black.

But let your word be, Yes, yes; No, no. For whatever is more than these comes from evil.

  25. Oh My Goodness !!

  26. What does using God's name in vain mean exactly?  Vain means "proud", or if you do something in vain it means it failed despite what you did (I ran for the train in vain, for it left as I reached the platform).

I think it must mean that you use God's name, but it fails anyway.  Just like when you pray.

So, OMG isn't taking God's name in vain.  It's more of an exclamation of surprise.

  27. Yep. And?

  28. Yeah, but I don't really care.

  29. yeah.......no one cares

    sorry

  30. sure do.

  31. some people use OMG to mean Oh my gosh....well i do.
