  1. As long as you stick to your list and no impulse buying, using coupons, you do save money..  The trap we all fall into is buying the extra stuff, because it is a good buy, but we do not need.

  2. Yes you do save money. But you have to have a large sum to start out with, but after that it is cheaper to maintain what you are spending.

  3. I used to shop at Costcos when I lived in NJ and what i wouldn't give to have one near me now.......now I have Sams......not even close!  But to answer your question, what I found was this, shop carefully, but most of the time, if I wasn't getting a better deal, I was getting MUCH better quality.  Their meats, cheeses, veggies, fruits and the like were FRESH, different and consistently good!  When they would have special deals, like furniture, pianos, rugs and the like, I found the quality for the money was definitely a money saver.  Some things weren't exceptional bargains, but agian, I would compare things I used or wanted and check around.  After all, I was there once a week, so it wasn't hard to check a bargain against say Walmart.  Now, sometimes I could do better on say butter, on sale at FoodTown, but the quality of the butter I could get a Costco, made it seem pale by comparison.  If you shop the sales, you can probably do better with toothbrushes, maybe even toothpaste, and yes, detergent.  I loved Costco's detergent, Kirkland, an excellent cleaner and worked very well with very little.  I usually did great with their batteries, and electronics were rarely beatable, even with sales.  I know this, I would dump Sams in a New York minute to get to shop at Costcos once again!  Hope this helps you!  Good luck!

  4. Only if you buy in bulk and use frequently.  They really do have good deals, but since you're paying a yearly membership, you need to make it worthwhile.  I say go every 2 months and spend at least $200 (stock up with stuff) to make it financially beneficial for you.

  5. yes actually u do save alot of money. i calcuated how much money it is at other stores and i also figured it out costcos give more items then 2 bars of soap and etc.

  6. If you are careful to buy only what you can use before it goes bad, it's a great deal.  But you have to be sure you have a plan for using it, or it's a waste of money.

If you are an impulse buyer, it's easy to walk out with 3 carts of stuff you didn't plan to buy. Use a list.

Their wines are  not a good deal: Trader Joe's has better and cheaper.
