  1. I would follow the instruction manual Engineers have tested thousands of motors and wrote the manual from the results of the test. What ever you do don't lug the engine or hold it at a constant RPM for extended amount of time. Your engine will thank you for several years to come.

  2. no you dont.

its all that "breaking in" bs

ride it like you stole it the first day you get it.

  3. They make you think so, but as long as you don't peg it and sit at 106 mph, it will breakin just fine. Just vary your speed a little.

  4. Play it safe! Riding above 4000rpm will cause an unstable wer-pattern in your cylnder-heads that will NEVER disappear. If you take your time now, your bike will run better, forever.

  5. no, no, no !!

    read the manual again

it says "do not exceed over 4000rpms for an extended period of time"

what that means is you can go over 4000, just don't hold it there and ride it for 10 miles non-stop at over 4000 rpms

its OK to jump on it and exceed that limit, but for very short times

  6. NO..  breaking in a motor means that you remove any high spots on the bearings & feathers from the gears in the gearbox...

to do this you should be gentle on the motor & use it through its full rev range..

so reving the motor to red line wont harm the motor as long as you are not in the top half of the range for long periods..

read this and decide for yourself.

  8. It is best if you do,(minor short over revs don't count) new engines need some time to wear in. Besides getting to 500miles will not take long and it gives you time to get use to the bike before the banzai runs.
