  1. No! Pointe is based off of ballet but is an extension of it. You can be an amazing ballerina without ever going en pointe. Despite what you have ever heard, pointe shoes do NOT have wood in them! Keep Dancing!

  2. Absolutely not!! Ballet and Pointe are two completely different forms. Being on Pointe doesn't mean you are more advanced than people who aren't on Pointe. This just means you are experiencing different forms of dance. There are many Ballets that has everyone on soft shoe, and these aren't any less impressive. Do what you feel comfortable with. If you are strong in soft shoe, stick to it and improve. If you want the extra challenge, go for Pointe!!

I hope I understood your question correctly...

  3. NO!!!!

    again, NO!

Sure it's good to have pointe training and that is usually a requirement for having a professional dance career. but you totally can be a GREAT ballerina without pointe shoes!!!!

    good luck! and keep dancing!

  4. Do you mean, do you really need pointe shoes to be a good ballerina? Well, you can still be good on flat shoes even if you have no pointe experience, but you can't really do ballet as a career without having pointe training.

  5. The shoes with wood are pointe shoes, and you do not need to be trained in pointe to be a good ballet or good dancer.  There is also demi pointe and modern ballet.  Pointe is a different animal all together and it is not for everyone.  I prefer contemporary because it combines a lot fo ballet technique plus modern moves and no pointe! (Because I suck at ballet!)
