Do you really practise what your Jesus preached?

As an atheist looking in, let us assume for a moment that your Christian Jesus was an actual person. In your bible it tells us that Jesus spoke against wealth without compassion, fed the hungry, cared for the needy, put children first and aided the sick. He supposedly told us that we too should follow his example and also care for and about people the way he did. It’s pretty obvious when reading about Jesus that he was undeniably a socialist.

My question is, if Jesus set an example that we should follow, why do most Christian conservatives in the United States ignore these teachings and support a fascist capitalist system by voting Republican? A political and economic system completely on the opposite end of the spectrum of what your Jesus taught.

  1. Many of those people consider themselves Christians but, if you look at their actions, they obviously are not.  There are a few sayings - one is "preach the Gospel always, use words if necessary."  The other is "the reason some people don't want to be Christian is because they have met a few."  We are judged by what we do, not what we say we are, and we should be acting better.  Jesus' behavior is an ideal, and many Christians try to follow as best they can.  Remember, the "Religious Right" is not, and the "Moral Majority" is neither.

  2. I really ought to, I got some of His teachings, but not all.

  3. Jesus didn't preach politics, He preached individual accountability.

BTW, the U.S.A sends billions of dollars in aid globally. That's just from the Government, it doesn't even touch upon religious and secular organizations that devote endless hours and funds to people who are needy.

Universal health care? Are you kidding? Do you have any idea just how much taxes would get jacked up to cover that cost? What if your a healthy person who doesn't use the system that often, do you want to pay through the nose for others to abuse it? The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

    Conditions such as? Do tell....

  4. yes, in the sense that Jesus mainly taught the golden rule:  to do unto others as we would have them do unto us.  he also taught to love our neighbor as our self, to pray for our enemies, to love one another.  a lot of christians are hypocrits.  no denying that or the fact that not all are.  i vote democrat.  blessings to you!!!

  5. We do contribute to many of these things.  Food banks are notoriously faith based organizations helping the poor.  Christian churches around the country help poor people by paying their rent on numerous occasions (I know this because I work in the apartment business).

I just don't particularly care for the government to take 1/2 my money and use it for causes that I don't believe in, forcing me to give handouts to people who drive better cars than me, who have more electronics than I have, who cheat the taxpayers on a monthly basis by getting jobs, and then quitting them before they have to report the income (or lose their benefits), just so they can get free housing & food stamps.

I've spent the last 8 years of my life working with the affordable housing industry (s-8), and I'm not saying there aren't people that need the help, but I visited a community in San Francisco and I was amazed when I drove around the community and saw numerous Lincoln Navigators, Lexuss, Mercedes and BMWs.  Now these same people who are obviously paying 600.00 a month car payments + insurance were only paying at times 25.00 per month for rent with our tax dollars paying the rest.

So.... no.... I don't think that we need to increase our current welfare system.   I think if we get the people off welfare that don't deserve it, and don't need it, then we'll have plenty left over for the people who do REALLY need it.

  6. Well Jesus was a homeless lad With an unwed mother and an absent dad And I really don't think he would have gotten that far If Newt, Pat and Jesse had followed that star Refrain: So let's all sing out praises to That long-haired radical socialist Jew When Jesus taught the people he Would never charge a tuition fee He just took some fishes and some bread And made up free school lunches instead So let's all sing out praises to.... He healed the blind and made them see He brought the lame folks to their feet Rich and poor, any time, anywhere Just pioneering that free health care So let's all sing out praises to.... Jesus hung with a low-life crowd But those working stiffs sure did him proud Some were murderers, thieves and whores But at least they didn't do it as legislators So let's all sing out praises to.... Jesus lived in troubled times the religious right was on the rise Oh what could have saved him from his terrible fate? Separation of church and state. So let's all sing out praises to....Sometimes I fall into deep despair When I hear those hypocrites on the air But every Sunday gives me hope When pastor, deacon, priest, and pope Are all singing out their praises to Some long-haired radical socialist Jew. They're singing out their praises to..oooo..oooo..Some long-haired radical socialist Jew.

    --------------------------------------...

I'd like to build the world a home And furnish it with love Grow apple trees And honey bees And snow-white turtle doves I'd like to teach the world to sing In perfect harmony I'd like to hold it In my arms And keep it company I'd like to see the world for once All standing hand in hand And hear them echo Through the hills Ah, peace throughout the land

  7. You already know why they do it:

They are told to by thier church.

Voting republican is way easier than thinking for yourself.

Churches don't get rich off of poor people who aren't trying to buy thier way into heaven.

  8. Socialism refers to any of various economic and political concepts of state or collective (i.e. public) ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods and services.

Jesus was not a socialist, he was some crazed man who thought he was the Messiah.

It is not socialist for private citizens and organizations to do good.

Look at the facts. Conservatives earn less income and  contribute more time and money to charities than bleeding heart liberals who tell other people what to do and how to live.  Arthur C. Brooks, a professor at Syracuse University, published "Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism." The surprise is that liberals are markedly less charitable than conservatives.

You need to stop repeating what you hear leftist extremists say and look for the facts for yourself.  Stop being so closed minded.  Open your mind.  Think for yourself.

  9. You raise an interesting point. I've never thought of Jesus as a socialist.

To answer your question, I would like to cite holy wars as an example of utter idiotic hypocrisy within Christianity. If Jesus was such a peace-monger, then why are people being killed for not believing in him? Everyone says that socialism isn't self-sustaining; it can't keep itself working because of all the inconsistencies within it. I am a socialist, and I don't believe that socialism is self-inconsistent. I think Christianity is.

  10. You do not even know what he taught.

People should probably read the scriptures before guessing what Jesus said.

Jesus was not a socialist. He concern was for more then just feeding people or giving them a home or providing physical things. He even chased away those who used him as a vending machine.

Jesus had nothing to do with the current politics in this country.

  11. When it comes to election day I will have to toss a coin to decide who to vote for..... One is , no they both are, full of hot air and liars to the extreme.... through the years I have watched many politicians stand up in public, make promises to get into office and then NOTHING..... and it gets worse as the years go by..... I trust nether of the men chosen to run this country..... May God help us !!!!! go in peace... God bless

  12. ok first, use spell check. practise??? second Jesus in in the history books so yes even to those who don't believe, he was real. you say he was without compassion towards wealth? he felt bad because when you are rich you have the illusion that you don't need help from anyone and therefore it is hard to accept salvation. Jesus wasn't a socialist. he was patronized for eating with 'sinners', people most would avoid, because he same to save the lost, not the found. also, how do you know that most Christians vote republican? answer; you don't. even if it was a research statistic, it wouldn't be reliable because many people say they are Christian but aren't and people who are Christian but don't go any father that salvation, so they don't live a Christian lifestyle.

  13. As an atheist looking in, let us assume for a moment that your Christian Jesus was an actual person.A.D. was in your history book for After Death, and B.C. was for Before Christ write, he was a man(Son of God)

Read all of the facts here your asking in Mathew 24-26

My question is, if Jesus set an example that we should follow, why do most Christian conservatives in the United States ignore these teachings and support a fascist capitalist system by voting Republican?

I follow Jesus as I learn more and more of him daily, no Man has ever on earth, not lied to my face yet except the word of God and the truth of God and Jesus they have never told me a lie yet.For all of the end time written 2000+ years ago have been true as even after the Rapture(taking of the Church the believers) the Word will keep showing the anti -Christ is who the Bible says he will be.

A political and economic system completely on the opposite end of the spectrum of what your Jesus taught

I don't vote if they sound like an anti -Christ any-who,LOL

  14. I am a Christian. As such, I am a pacifist, and wish to work as much as possible toward eradicating poverty, overpopulation, environmental destruction, war, oppression and other societal ills. I think that this is in keeping with what Christ taught. However, nobody is perfect, least of all me. I  try, but often fail. I feel that Christ taught social justice and equality, and I try to lend a hand to causes that support these objectives.

  15. Jesus was not a politician of any kind, neither a socialist nor a capitalist.

You'll also find that a lot of conservative voters (Repub / Libertarian) are heavily involved in their local churches in various charitable activities. They didn't wait for the government to pass a law to do something, they just did it.

  16. Well, I'm only going to say: I'm not perfect. As it's getting close to the end of time, the world becomes worse and worse, and in fact, if we were just like Jesus, or if we did ALL the things you mentioned, and didn't make mistakes, we WOULD NOT need him! But, sense we're not judging here, Christians aren't perfect, and we won't condemn you for not believing in him.
