Do you really see anything offensive about the nickname go go?

My real name is Georgine (I am using my husbands ya account, stealing points from him haa) but everyone has always known me as go go. Especialy at the elementary school where I work as a teacher aide. The kids have always known me as go go. The problem now is some of the new administration thinks I should drop that nick name as it sounds offensive to a learning environment.

I don't really find it offensive but it does have that stripper sound to it.  also, if you are at work, especially in a school, it's just unprofessional to use nicknames like that.

Consider the source.

Your job.

Your particular system probably does not think it appropriate for students or staff to use your nick name, because of the familiarity involved.  

If they are the new folk, then go with the flow.  New administrative people always want to make changes.  Make your life simple.  Think!!

If they ask you to use your birth name and not a nick name.  Do it.

Very simple thing.

I don't see how.  I've heard a whole lot worse !  I would ask these new admin idiots if they try to change everyone to suit them!

Did they say why they thought it sounded offensive?  It doesn't make any sense because I don't see anything offensive in it.  I actually think its a cute nick name.

it is an unusual nickname. There are a lot of people out there, and some of them might think of it as somewhat sexual.

all you have to do is explain why you got that nickname. I know a person who's nick name is also go-go. I'ts because shes always ready to go, she's the first one to get up and do something.

Wow....that sounds like one uptight administration..  GoGo is a great nickname for an elementary school aide.  These are kids, not CEO's.

If they're just following the school policy and guidelines, then yes, you shouldn't use it.

This is definitely a tough question, but I hope you work things out with your colleagues and faculty.
