Question:

Do you really see the country in terms of Repubs vs. Dems?

There is so much hatred here that it seems like no one recognizes we're all just trying to do what we think is best for our families and our country.

Do you guys honestly visualize the "other side" as evil people bent on hurting you and yours? Are you at all resentful of the current political system and media that has created such a hostile environment, distracting from the issues at the heart of this election?

  1. America was born with good principal ideals

but in less of 200 years we s***w  everything up

for what? Money and Power everything else is bullshit

and now you got what you got..

then people can say whatever they want

  2. I never have, but didn't realize how much your statement is true until I watched the speeches at the RNC tonight.

The subtle innuendo's that "they" are not patriotic...to me, meant anyone that is not Republican....

I'm an Independent....and hearing that upset and angered me very much. I also have no use for the ongoing fear tactics that are used. After seven long years of that now, that alone has torn and divided the country.

I was so hoping to go away from listening to the speeches tonight with some more information and insight on issues, but all the negativity left me feeling horrible, and I learned nothing more substantial on issues....

My grown children were very interested in hearing tonights speeches as well, and they got up and walked away shaking their heads, my daughter had teary eyes....She said there's no point in getting involved when it makes a person feel bad.....

I don't think that either side would allow this country to be harmed, or deliberately set out to ruin the country.....So all this hostility is debilitating....I don't know how anyone can cheer over all of that.

The only person I witnessed not smiling or joining in on that camaraderie tonight was Mike Huckabee and his wife, while listening to the other speakers. The camera's scanned over to them, and neither were smiling....

  3. Wow, the first sane post I've seen on the Elections thread since... ever.

Politics seems to have gotten more ugly, partisan (and sensationalist) in the last 10 years.  It doesn't seem to about how my way of government will achieve our similiar goals more effectively than your way.  It seems to be about how your party's goal is actually to ruin the country!!!???

A vote for Obama is a vote for terrorists?  A vote for McCain is a vote for fascists?  Ridiculous.

Religious people have become hateful of people who are not of their same religious affliation.  Atheist and agnostics assume all religious people are brain dead and assume they all believe the world is flat and humans were made from mud.

There was a time when religious people had peace in their hearts and faith that they can help their neighbor make the world a better place.  There was a time when atheists believed that they can't explain everything and that they are still searching for more truth.

I hope that we, as a country, can somehow turn this around.  I don't particularly like Obama, but at least he wants to unite, even if he seems to be trying a bit too hard to please everyone.  He seems to have less hate than McCain, even if he may be less experienced.  But please don't see this as a pro-Obama post.  I will probably vote third party (since there is no risk of another Bush in the Oval office - his administration generated more hate and partisanship than any other in recent history).

  4. No.

I believe that the vast majority of Americans are moderates.  They fall somewhere between the two.  That is why there is such a fight to get those votes.

I also believe that is why we would greatly benefit from a third party that represents the moderate.

Obamacans can BS all they want about Obama being "95% like Hillary."  (He's not.)  The FACT is that BOTH Obama and Biden are more left than the one acclaimed Socialist in Congress, Bernie Sanders of Vermont.

Obama is the MOST left and Biden is the Third-most left of all Senators.  Both much farther left than the Socialsit.

BTW -- McCain always was a very moderate Republican.  That's why it was easy for me to switch form Hillary to McCain.  McCain was the only Moderate left as a candidate.

In any case, Obama is not even close to being a moderate.

  5. I see it more as a "doing the best for the most" and "doing the best for me and my buddies" (this is more the republicans in power)

Granted, I don't  think that anyone is honestly out to harm other people, but most of the ranking republican ideals are skewed. If they really think they are doing the best that they possibly can for the entire country, not just themselves, it's time they get out of politics.
