Question:

Do you really think that the Rebate Check is so great?

When I see the questions of people asking about the status of their rebate checks I am just amazed. Now do get me wrong I glad I got my rebate check in the bank but do you really think this rebate check is going to solve anything? Look at gas and food prices. I rather have permanent tax cuts than receiving a one time rebate check. By receiving these rebate checks it clearly indicates to me that the US Government is taking too much money from us in the first place. There are people who are not required to file an income tax return and are getting a little rebate check such as $300. Plus the money that was wasted in processing this program such as the IRS notices that was mailed out to millions of people. What we really need is massive permanent tax relief from all levels of government and not a little rebate check to jump start the economy.

  1. I dont think it made any serious impact.

  2. Well, but when you get that massive permanent tax relief, you also get less services. Assuming you live out in the middle of nowhere with well water, a septic tank, private roads and homeschool your kids, I guess you'd be okay with that, but otherwise, "massive" tax cuts aren't exactly the answer.

Now, to many people, that rebate check meant they'd be able to buy back to school items for children, be able to afford a little nicer of a dinner for little timmy's birthday, they could catch up on bills or save a little more for that rainy day. If we were to have less taxes, do you think those people would have done the same? No, because as the foreclosure crisis has shown, people think they deserve and can buy a house and car and everything else much more expensive than they actually can, and don't bother to "save," living one day at a time.

So in reality, the rebate check is the best thing that can happen for america, because otherwise the tax cuts you speak of would be funding more ill-afforded means.

  3. I highly suggest learning what the stimulas package was designed to do and it was not free money but based on a early tax credit.

The United States hardly taxes its people as a federal government compared to many other industrial nations.

The people who are not required to file a tax form also are the ones like say veterans and those who get low amounts on social security so consider that not as a waste but assistance and the money is most often rolled out to pay down bills or buy food.

The rebate checks do help jump the economy not solve long term problems. My reasoning comes directly from being involved in the Alaska PDF where they send residents checks each year. The state notices a large economic boost on all levels. Problem the IRS is having is the Federal Program is one time and never done like this before so there are many bumps in the road.

Tax relief, from a nation that taxes so little for the numerous benefits provided. While your situation is unknown please understand for many this one time check will help with food, heat, gas, or however best serves them...

Not to mention the states who are benefiting from unpaid child support collected from the checks. Yeh, federal and state accounts have to be repaid first so in many ways even you are benefiting from this because your state is getting funds paid in that they have already paid out in many circumstances.

  4. NO.  All the US did was secure debt with China, which we are already up to our necks in debt with them.  I find the whole idea completely ignorant and belittling.  The economy is in the toilet, housing has fallen, gas prices are through the roof, and they want me to spend money on a DVD player or new cell phone!  This government is a joke!  In the short term, yeah there will be a spur of spending.  However, this will only lead to problems down the road with production, etc.  What a waste of resources, effort, and money.  Tax overhaul is needed.  It would end some ervices, which is fine by me.  This government is tooooo big anyway.  The Federal Government needs to be told by voters to focus it's attention on NECESSARY things, not micromanaging my life and taking all my money in the process.  Aint' socialism great???????
