  1. no. no. they are telling us about the things that we have encountered in the past.

  2. Dreams when we sleep can come true. People's dreams tend to differ a lot in how close to realistic they are. Usually they are based on past events and explore strange possibilities under a set of circumstances. So I really doubt a lot of them come true, but there is a chance if it sounds possible. I also beleive they do tell us something more as inspiration than advice.

  3. sometimes there giving you clues about different situations in your life. In my dream a couple of nights ago, i was getting shot at when i went back to my old neighborhood, this isnt uncommon because i've been shot at a few times in real life (yes I live in the ghetto).--I guess my dream was telling me dont go back to your neighborhood any time soon.

  4. Dreams are complicated. Sometimes they are about something that happened to us - during the previous day or months/years - or just completey random. Everyone usually has 1-5 dreams a night we just don't remember alot of them.

  5. You scored many replies on this, so I'll add my tuppence worth- consider how the brain (self) operates. The right side is the poetic, creative, artistic center, while the left side is our logical, practical, get-it-done center with which we are mostly familiar. The right side appears to be the source of our dreams, and it necessarily works by metaphor and analogy. Fine. But when we awaken, our more direct left-brain rules, OK? Its linear mode does not do an accurate interpretation of what crosses over via the corpus colosseum, and the mismatch convinces us that dreams are *illogical*, and to set things right, considerable insight and experience is required.

All that preamble has a purpose: to understand that very little of a dream's content can be seen as literal, and the people and especially symbols and locales are just pointers to the essentials, often expressed in the *emotional* content running as an (sometimes unseen) adjunct to the images we recall. Whoo. See if it works for U.

  6. I think sometimes dreams show what's on your conscience or you just dream about something because it was the last thing you thought about before sleeping.

  7. I read somewhere that dreams are thoughts of what was in the back of your mind before you fell asleep.  It doesn't mean anything but fantasies you have, things you have been thinking about, etc.   It's just what is going on in your mind.

  8. Obviously, if you dream about something, it is on your mind...whatever we dream of relates to us somehow, but they probably aren't "telling us something" Yes, some come true, but they are more or less just signs of what we are thinking about, and how are thoughts are so powerful they are penetrating our mind during our sleep....They don't mean too much in our daily lives, although they do have some effect on how we treat others...

  9. "Dreams are the answers to questions that we haven't yet figured out how to ask." Agent Mulder ~ The X-Files~ "Audrey"

Wise words from Agent Mulder.  ;]

  10. I don't think dreams predict the future, and I don't think having a particular thing in your dream always means the same thing...it depends a lot on the context and the most important part of the dream is the emotions you feel during it.  If you are stressed out when you're awake, you'll have nightmares when you sleep.  If you're generally happy when you're awake, you'll tend to have pleasant dreams.  Sometimes looking at the dream can make you more aware of how you feel about something that you were suppressing while awake.  For instance, if you get in a fight with your friend but then apologise and think everything is OK again, then have a dream where your friend is trying to kill you, it doesn't mean your friend is really going to kill you, it probably just means you still feel betrayed by them and haven't completely forgiven them yet.
