Do you really want a VP candidate that supports creationism in the classrooms?

Sara Palin supports the subject of creationism to be taught in classrooms. As a mother of a student I find that idea totally obsurd. What are your opinions of this topic? Should this he an acceptable subject taught in our classrooms? What are your feelings about Palins support of the subject.

  1. In short, no. The bigger picture here is that, since court after court has ruled that teaching IDiocy is Unconstitutional, can any candidate for high office tell the truth when they swear to support and uphold the Constitution when they have serious views that are Unconstitutional, if carried out.

It would appear that were Ms. Palin to have to swear that as a VP, that she would have to tell a lie. Who wants a P or VP who LIES in their oath of office ?

  2. Are you sure that you don't mean ABSURD instead of "obsurd"?

I'm voting for Obama because of his wanting to revamp NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND.   Bush has done more to hurt education with that than anything.  It is idiotic to think that all children are the same and will make the same amount of progress in a given time span.  Some children will never be as intelligent as others.  He's deluded if he thinks this is the case.

  3. Whether Craetionism is taught or not i dont care, i do think that Evolution should not be taught as fact and that the scientific evidence does not all point towards this theory. It should be taught that creationism is a possibilty as Evolution is also a possibility and is taught.

Just my opnion but i bet i get thumbs down for this.

  4. Yes I do.

  5. As an outsider, I think it's frightening that rubbish like this can be taught in schools. It's a warning to those of us in Europe to keep an eye on extreme religionists, and not to let them achieve the same influence that they seem to have in the USA.

  6. Yes, and I'm voting Republican.

  7. I hate the idea of ID and/or creationism being taught in the classroom.

I think Palin's support of this shows that she has absolutely no respect for the separation of church and state.

  8. I want both a presidential candidate AND a vice-presidential candidate that KNOWS what they stand for and has the courage to express it.  I don't agree with a lot of McCain's stances, but at least I know where he stands.

That's more than I can say about Obama or his VP choice.

  9. It is completely unacceptable.

    What a moron

  10. while I do not support teaching specific "religion" in any government education industry school...I also do not support teaching of "theories" as fact as is done in  most "schools" concerning evolution.

I would much prefer Palin to any of the other candidates... including the democrat McCain.... I certainly do not want a Marxist or Fascist... which all of the top democrats are one or the other... a progressive by any name is still a Fascist

  11. church and state are supposed to be separate but they do what they want now a days. this country was based on freedom of religion. if someone don't agree with that, they should not be taught that.

  12. The day creationism is taught in the classroom is the day my child would be pulled out and home schooled.

  13. Creation stories?

Here are some just to name a few:

Babylon creation myth, African Olari creation myth, Norse creation myth, Mayan creation myth, Micmac creation myth, Iroquois creation myth, Hawaiian creation myth, Egyptian creation myth(s), Aztec creation myth, Hopi creation myth, any others,.............................. Oh yes Genesis creation myth!

Why not waste time and teach all the hundreds of thousands of creation stories?!

"The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion"

    John Adams

[1735-1826] 2d President of the United States

“Today, the religion clauses of the First Amendment do not need to be fixed; they need to be followed.” — Walter Mondale

    Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

    [This is implied right here.]

    Read on:

The phrase "separation of church and state", which does not appear in the Constitution itself, is generally traced to an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists, where Jefferson spoke of the combined effect of the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. It has since been quoted in several opinions handed down by the United States Supreme Court.

If anyone thinks the USA is founded on Christianity or wants to impose a Theocracy, then they have to re-enslave all African Americans and kill the rest of the Native Americans. Notice how they don't bring those 2 points into their way of thinking.

Deist with a B.A. degree in Anthropology (Archaeology)

Evolution is a scientifc theory and a fact.

  14. Creationism is religion amd not science. No matter what Palin believes it would be unconstitutional to teach Creationism in public schools. Trying to force the issue will just cost local taxpayers more due to the trials that will be brought against the school boards.

  15. Its not a federal gvt issue and she is running for a position in the federal gvt, so I think its a non issue.

I would be more concerned if she wanted to make this a federal issue but there is no indications of that.  As governor of a state that was an issue that mattered.  As VP, its not an issue that applies because the fed gvt does not make up a schools curriculum.  (and it shouldnt)

  16. No, of course not. Creationism has no place in public schools, certainly not in classrooms where real science is taught. If religious schools want to teach creationism, that's fine with me. But courts have held that teaching creationism in public schools is a violation of the doctrine of separation of church and state.

I wasn't going to vote for McCain anyway, but this does nothing to help his cause among those of us who understand the Constitution.

  17. I am opposed to Darwinism being taught in the classrooms, but guess what? Darwinism is taught. So what is wrong with creationism being taught? Nothing at all.

  18. She's still better than Obama, in my book.

And this is probably a small issue in the greater scheme of things for the election.  Those that this might sway one way or another are most likely already in the tank for McCain or Obama and wouldn't have changed based on his VP pick anyway.

But she does have a lot of stances and is a woman, which might sway those that are not in the tank for either candidate towards McCain.

  19. No, I do not. Which is why I am not voting Republican. McCain picked her to get the disgruntled Hillary supporters vote.

  20. As a mother, you should take enough interest in your childs education to get envolved in thier learning and express your thoughts on the subject and why you think this way.  Your childs learning is your responsibility.  Take charge of it.

You should not vote for someone based upon what they believe.  There are many people in the government making laws and it balances out.

  21. Sadly, there are people around here who would vote for her JUST because of that. It's so disturbingly depressing.

  22. As I have said before in another questions: I think that a science classroom of topic X should have the coursework determined by experts in field X. Thus, creationism and intelligent design clearly do not belong in a biology classroom. If put there, I would consider it an affront to my daughter’s education, and I would participate in some form of protest against it.

I find it difficult to support any candidate who doesn’t share this idea.
