Do you reckon this has been an amazing and surprising Olympics?

Well being a keen armchair sports fan, and everyone else seems to be to, we have been following the Olympics since it opened virtually, give or take a beach volleyball game or two, (that's not a sport), !

and some amazing things have happened and continue to do so.

First i give a warm and hearty applause and a big hurrah to Great Britain for doing so very well. Being only a little Island and having some great and indeed some under par sports stars i have been enthralled with what many have achieved. Then seeing some of the big stars come and literally go out. I watched the Americans crash and burn at the 100m, 200m, titles going to Usain Bolt, what a star, then see them go out doing the relay in men's and women's event, by dropping the baton, along with many of the other top teams, then add to that Team GB relay s***w up, when it could have meant we got a medal. Now we hear that equestrian riders have been disqualified for probable horse doping, and seeing

that China is leading the world, which i wouldn't have expected.

No matter the politics of the situation, i reckon they have put on a good show. We know London can't follow that but lets look forward to 2012.

  1. It's been refreshing to not be mortified by Team GB's performance and the peddling of excuses

  2. I boycotted the genocidal commie-hosted Olympics: Letting China host the Olympics is much worse than when they had it in Hitler's Germany (this time there was no doubt about the genocidal animals being the host, while Hitler's Germany hosted the Winter Olympics before the true nature of Nazism was widely known).

  3. Well said. As my home country of Malaysia had to settle for a single silver, and considering I study in London, I find myself rooting for Britian to remain in third ahead of Russia.

Regardless, this has been a highly entertaining couple of weeks and I can only hope 2012 is as exciting because I get to be up close and personal for that one.

  4. I have thoroughly enjoyed this olympic fortnight. There have been many nice surprises and the whole atmosphere seems fantastic, wish I was there to experience it!!

  5. It depends if you are referring to the sportsmen and women or the facilities and costs not only to the Chinese people but also to the British people.  China has spent billions on staging the 2008 Games - I believe a similar amount to the injection of cash our British Government put into the failed bank Northern Rock not so long ago!

. . and Britain's Olympic squad will be outnumbered two to one in Beijing by politicians, civil servants and BBC staff whose trips to China will cost us the public taxpayers almost £7 million, the Daily Telegraph disclosed that.  Let's hope that in 2012 our politicians and civil servants can pay for themselves so the savings can go to the BBC who will have to provide the World Coverage.  Let's hope the BBC can rake it in charging other broadcasters an arm and a leg to have a look in.

The projected bill for a London Games is £2.375 billion - that's quite enough and don't even think about spreading the costs on the taxpayers outside London - to buy a ticket, pay anything from £100 for a train ticket and then the extortionate costs B&B will charge plus meals and then taxis or bus fares - north of Watford will need a bank loan by 2012.

It's about sport and individuals not national show off time at any expense.  From that point of view it's been a spectacle of sporting talent but a political moral failure.

  6. i reckon NO.

  7. nbc has always been bad with commercials.espicially with nascar races.instead of nascar on tnt should be called commercials on tnt.

  8. It has been an awesome olympics! Beach Volleyball is one of the best sports ever!!!

  9. YES, IT IS THE BEST SO FAR !!!,In this game, it shows the full Olympic spirit, not in winning gold medals or losing, that is a sportsmanship of all nations, Do you see in the winning of China team or individual there are USA coaches,France coaches or Ausie coaches, and in other hand , USA winning gold medals team or individual there are Chinese coaches ( shawn gold medalist has Chinese coach for sample and  basket ball team of China has USA coach). Medals is not importance, the spirit of Olympic is for ever friendship is for ever.

  10. 1. you people need to stop being mean to her and stop saying RECKON to tease her! im from texas and people say howdy and all that...wat if we made fun of your accent?

    2. well im not sure, becuase i am only twelve so the last olympics i was 8 & too young to get it, but i do think this has been a great olympics. i am also so happy shawn johnson won a gold...she earned it(:

  11. No, I don't. I think it has been average.

  12. BEACH VOLLEYBALL not a sport i hear u say,shame on you.your obviously a woman. ha

  13. Yep tons and tons of world records broken!

New stars were born: Usain Bolt! (soz but Michel phelps has win winning since the last olympics anyway so hes old skool)

and as for all the haters: I hear theyre bringing the new Mcdonalds All you can eat range for 99p why dont you all eat and get fat and floppy?

  14. All Olympics are great, IMO because the atheletes are the best of the best.  I watch all the games that I can, even watch sports that I don't do myself, like gymnastics.  I am a life-long endurance runner and enjoy the track events the best.

The GB atheletes gave their all and they were super to watch.  And yes, I love seeing them ahead of Team Rusia.

The best part about the Olympics are the underdogs, and the come-from-behind surprises.  Of course I want to see the US win gold, but these are people first out there competing and the best atheletes always deserve to get the gold REGARDLESS of country they are competing for.

I cheer for the winners and cry for the losers, especially the gymnasts who have to endure such painful falls.  Pain is universal and I shed tears and scream in horror for all of them when they fall.  And when they win, they deserve my screams of joy.

A Mexican wrestler competing for the US won gold recently.  His parents came to the US illegally (which would irritate most Americans) but when he won he proudly held up the US flag and ran around with pride.  He had tears in his eyes, dropped down with the US flag still wrapped around him and cried with joy.  That moment to me was the best moment in sports.  I'm sure that young man went through h**l for years just living in the US as a child of illegal immigrants, yet he pulled himself from poverty to make something of himself.

I have to rely on NBC coverage for the Olympics but I still read BBC (best news in the world for anything), Le Figaro and Stern (German) for sports coverage so I can read up on the other athletes.

  15. It's been good and bad.  No comment on China.

  16. I LOVED this years olympics!

except the freakish amount of commercials....and the horrible commentary....and the ads for that chicken sandwich from McDonalds that no athlete would actually even touch....
