  1. Im 13 and homeshooled! It's pretty cool as long as if your with a homeschool group that you meet with from time to time. The donwfalls are probably there are usally no cute guys or none of your friends are learning with you. If you get into homeschooling make sure you get with a homeschool group so you'll have some friends to see sometimes!

  2. well i get home-school and I'm in Jr. high the home-school i go to is great. you have this class were you, the teacher, and your classmate talk and study the work you have to do. but if you get into home-school choose a good one. the bad part about home is the you lose your social skills. i recommend it my brain has improved in many ways.

  3. Yes I recommend it, I have home been home schooling and now use an online charter school. Yes you can work at your own pace and my oldest son graduated and now attends a private university with scholarships.

Many people don't consider home schooling thier children, because they are afraid thier children will miss out on socialization. According to the U.S. Department of Education, it is estimated that 1.7 percent of all students participate in a home schooling program. A greater number of parents are turning to home schooling as an option for educating their children.

This concept once only included the idea of parents assuming the responsibility of educating their own children. Today, the modern home school has evolved to include the use of computers and other technically-advanced equipment. Although home schooling has the predominant form of education throughout history, many people consider it to be a new concept.

Why are parents choosing home schooling more and more? There are many benefits. You can customize your curriculum (just as k12 does). Home schooling enables students to participate in a curriculum that is tailored to their needs. They can focus on specific areas of interest or other areas that require extra attention.

You can use different learning methods, so students don't have to sit at a desk all day. They might go on a field trip to a historical place, explore nature at a park, or visit a science camp.

Most home school based curriculum is self-paced, so if students require extra help on an assignment or want additional challenges, they can learn as fast or as slow as they choose. In a traditional school setting , the teacher can't always slow down and go over an area that a few students may not understand as well as the rest of the class. This is how so many kids today "get lost" and are left behind. A situation like this is easily avoided at home.

Having a flexible schedule is a great benefit. Home schooling provides students with more options than a traditional classroom. Students can set their own schedule and learn at any time. If they want to take a test at night, they have the freedom to do so. They are learning on their own terms.

There are fewer social distractions for children at home. Home schooling allows students to learn without the worry or interference of social distractions. They are not faced with the social pressures of regular school. They can focus on their work and not what another kid in the class might be saying or doing. You don't have to worry about bad influences that your child might have at school (drugs, alcohol, the wrong crowd etc). If you teach your child a certain set of morals and values, they will not learn something entirely different as they may have in a traditional school setting.

Home schooling enables students to get one-on-one attention from their teacher. Whether they are learning from a parent or online teacher, they can get immediate attention for all of their educational needs.

A home schooling program can provide students with choices. It gives them an alternative to the traditional classroom. Whether they choose home schooling for academic, safety or social reasons, they can be in charge of their education. It enables them to create an individualized learning experience.

For many children this is definitely a good option. A student needs to be self disciplined enough to do the school work daily. If a student is dedicated to being home schooled and can appreciate it, they can be successful !

  4. Yes, I would recommend homeschooling for the suitable student and family. It gives you a chance to go your own pace, as you already know, it frees up your time to pursue your own interests, you aren't subjected to the constant social nonsense and more.

There's nothing about homeschooling itself stopping you from interacting with society. In fact, homeschooling gives you the opportunity to do it more, and with REAL society, not just kids in desks at school. There are probably homeschool groups where you live offering a wide range of regular activities. There are undoubtedly swimming and other lessons and clubs and more just in your general community. Your local library probably has a teen volunteer program for reshelving books. There's so much out there you could do--and your schooling will take up so little time that you'll have the time to do it. And not have homework in the evening. :)

You do NOT have to follow the local school syllabus. Not sure why someone would think that. If you think you might go to public high school, then the year before you should check on anything the school might like from you and find out how they accept your work if you decide to start high school after your first year. There may be some specific things you need to do through homeschooling to obtain credit.

The primary downfall, as you have seen, is that plenty of people spout negative nonsense about homeschooling simply because they don't know anything about it. You might get attitude from some people now and then. But the benefits will be worth it.

  5. I was home schooled and I would recommend it to anyone who can pull it off.

I really can't think of any downfalls besides having crazy and/or nosy people try to stick they're noses into you busyness to try to tell you to go to a "normal" school (and whats so normal about the c**p in schools today?) Otherwise [the kids] will never learn to survive in 'The Real World'.(See, see! Its capitalized like the reality show!)

Its a common miss-perception that home schoolers don't interact with other people/kids. Its mostly biased of the faulty idea that home schooling kiddies never leave the house. Which is crazy.

When home schooling, a lot of the schooling actually takes place in the REAL 'Real World'.

  6. My granddaughter is home schooled, it is amazing how bright she is. I have several friends who home school. these kids learn so much value, family values. they seem to excel in so many areas, and the only negative I see is more should be home schooled I notice a very possitive attitude in these children.

  7. hello im 18 I've just graduated in 2007 from doing home school. i started at the beginning of grade 4 as my mother was not impressed with teachers in the 2 different schools i attended, and decided to give it a go. To do home schooling successfully you need self motivation. many mornings id wake up late n relax around the house but i knew what i had to get done by the end of the day and finished it, my sister on the other hand was not self motivated and it was a struggle the whole time. people say you miss out on a social life because of home schooling that is absolutely false.People love having an opinion on how horrible it is and how you have no friends and the only people who do it are complete nerds that breed like rabbits but unless you have actually done it for yourself you cant exactly dis it as you have no idea what your talking about. i have *to be honest* too many friends you meet people through sports/ at parties, through friends ect ect if your an outgoing enough person you can meet people literally anywhere. so if you are committed to doing home schooling you can have a real advantage academically as i am now going into uni to do law.

    hope i was helpful.

  8. Yes i do recommend homeschooling! I have been home-schooled all my life (I'm 15) and I think that it's great!! I have loads of friends and I have learnt way more than if I was in school!! as someone else said if you are going to go ahead with if get in touch with another home-ed group so you can meet up with them!

    Buddy

  9. It depends. If your school isn't that great and slows down your learning, then you should consider getting home-schooled. But, sometimes people who are home schooled don't get to experience as much of the "real world" as others who aren't homeschooled, and later on in life when you get a job and other stuff, it might be harder to adapt.

  10. No. Do not homeschool.

School teaches much more than books; you learn how to work in a society. Like learning to deal with stupid people. Wherever you go there will be stupid people holding you back. Better get used to it now.

There will also be smarter people you can't seem to beat. You will see them later in life.

Social skills vital to later in life are learned in school.

I very strongly recommend you stay in school.

Later in high school, as you get differentiated as smarter kids go into AP and IB classes, you'll have less stupid people to deal with, so don't worry.
