  1. I agree with everyone else - pre-school offers a great start for Kindergarten.  Your child will much better prepared for school if s/he attends pre-school.  The term "pre-school" generally means the child is at least 36 months old.  Most pre-schools offer 3 and 4 year old classes.  The cost will vary from place to place.  People who live in bigger cities will pay more.  In our area (very rural), children who attend pre-school for 3 mornings a week pay about $75 a week.  Some families qualify for subsidized child care based on income.  Many of these child care sites have pre-school available.  Some school districts have pre-school available for free.  You might also qualify for Head Start.  You should check out the options in your area.

  2. I work in a kindergarten class as an aide and one student has never been to any type of pre school and right now he is struggling. Socially very immature and academically way behind. He does not have the attention span at circle time  like the other children. He still hits and spits water at the other students. He acts more like a three year old. YES pre school HELPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I am a pre-school teacher so of-course I would say yes to sending your child to pre-school.  There are many advantages to sending your child to pre-school, such as, learning socialization skills, a head start on reading skills, writing skills, and much more.  In our state pre-k is free.  It is funded by our lottery.  Pre- k starts at 4 years old here and is part of the school district.

  4. Yes it gets them used to the idea of school and will give you more time by yourself.

  5. Where I work It is a state preschool program the age of the children there are 3 year olds to 4 year olds and they must be potty trained. Since we are state funded the program is for low income parents. Personally i recommend preschool because it gives children the social skills they will need as well as the learning foundations that they will learn from concepts. I am not sure about how much money you should pay.

  6. Yea, It gives your child a preveiw of the real thing. It also Matters what preschool your thinking of. The child also has fun. It costs around $500.About 3-4.

  7. Preschool is usually free for those who can't afford it and who are zoned to a Title I school.  You should definitely send your child to preschool.  Some schools have Prek 3- starting at 3 years old.

  8. I agree completely with Kat.  Even down to the $$$.  We live in a rural community as well.

May I comment on the fact that when I was in school, Pre-K was just starting and many of the Kindergartens were still the classrooms that "got the children ready" for school.  That was where most of the appropiate social behaviors were taught.  It ran very similar to a Pre-K now a days.  But times are changing and those social behaviors really need to be in place so that the Kindergarten teacher can start right with the "teaching".  Standards are changing...more is expected.

Your child will benefit to at least one year of preschool.  Great job for thinking about your child and their education!

  9. i went to pre-school. it was fun, and i got to know more kids for when i was older.

  10. Absolutely! The social learning is imperative for life skills.  We have to deal with people the rest of our lives and learning appropriate social skills will make the rest of the child school years smoother.

  11. If you are in the United Kingdom I believe all children are entitled to some free sessions each week. At a preschool that I have helped at the children were just starting and some were as young as 2 years 9 months and they settled in quickly. It will help their social development but expect it to be hard when you first take them.

  12. isn't preschool free for everyone that has childrens

  13. I thought pre-school was free.  Geez, where do you live.  You should send your child to pre-school.  The kid can start when he/she is ready or about age 4 or 5 I believe.  Pre-school will expose them to other kids.  Or send them to a daycare/pre-school.  Or teach the kids at home.  Pre-school is fun.  Find a good free program.

  14. As a teacher I believe pre-school is a great thing for a child.  Remember, by the time your child is in Kindergarten many of those children will have already been in school for many years.  Also, pre-school is a good way for your child to learn social skills before they get into the regular school setting.

  15. Much depends on the child but I think at least one year of three mornings a week will help any child. This helps socially, getting along with others both teachers and children, listening skills, and becoming self sufficient. It gives the chance to learn how to learn. Cost depends on the area you live and which school you put them in.
