Question:

Do you recommend Hoi An over Hue, or do I need to see both? I only have 5 nights in Vietnam.?

I have 5 nights in Vietnam. I am spending 2 in Hanoi, 1 in Halong Bay. I am torn between spending 2 nights in Hoi An and spending time in the city, or spend one night in Hue and one night in Hoi An and be more rushed. Any advice is appreciated.

  1. i think with 5 nights, u can  visit Hoi An and Hue, because they are not far from each other. But it's not enough time for u spend Ha Noi and Ha long Bay .

    U can chose : Hue and Hoi An ( 5 nights )

Ha Noi and Ha Long Bay (5 nights )

    Have a nice trip

  2. Hoi An are distance about 150 km and it will take you about 3 hour  to Hue

Very nice to see both of them

    Good luck

  3. I would recommend Hue.  We visit there most every summer and will be there in 41 days, Ya.  There is actually more to see in Hue.  There are tailor shops in Hue too that make great clothes very quickly.

You can't beat the scenery there.  The Citadel/Forbidden City, the river side cafes, the food, the people, the ancient tombs, old Pagoda's  and the river cruises are all fantasic.

Hope you have a great trip, I know we will.  Cheers

  4. go for both. theres hella to see there

  5. Personally I would go for Hoi An, you will always have something to go back for another time but Hanoi and the travel to and fro between there and Ha Long Bay are fairly full on days so Hoi An is both lovely and a place to chill.

As I am sure you understand, a mere 5 days can never do a country as diverse as Vietnam justice. However, you need a little time during any visit to see life how it is and you can get that if you devote 2 days to Hoi An. There is a chance to make good value clothes made, take a cooking class, eat at some delightful small restaurants and shop to your hearts content - or just chill.

Hue is only 3 hours away by road and conceivably you could do a night in each but sights in Hue are well spread out, the city is far from one of my favourites in Vietnam (poor eating and accommodation options and tenacious rickshaw drivers who will drive you insane) and people who in a higher than average proportion seem to want to separate you from your money. Sure, it is worth it if you have time and maybe the fact both my visits have led to food poisoning (the only such incident I have had in Vietnam) make me biased but Hoi An is so lovely.

Some people will say see Hue at all costs but I took a group of 19 friends to Vietnam for my wedding, 16 went to Hue and 15 felt Hoi An was far better.

Whatever you do you are in for an amazing 5 days.

  6. hue has the histroy

hoian has the history and is scenic

another thing is a overnight train trip from hanoi to sapa for real beauty

  7. Hoi An. It is a quaint village, reminds me of Key West (Florida).  You would not be rushed in Hoi An if you had one full day and one night.

The Imperial City of Hue is certainly worth it.

You will find the one-day trip to Halong Bay quite grueling (but really worth it) so you may want to just relax in Hoi An.

  8. for historical interest hue is best its pronounced whay but for a really pretty town in vietnam hoi an takes some beating and there are many cheap tailor shops they will make you anything you like overnite also has a great beach

  9. Go to Hoi An and go there during the full moon - check the chinese calender. They turn of all the electricity and the whole town is lit by candlelight.

Hue has only the imperial palace and its overpriced  for foreigners to get in. The city of Hue really is just a city.
