Question:

Do you release more carbon dioxide by driving somewhere or by flying?

I've heard that commercial jets can burn up to three gallons of gas per mile. Considering how many people travel on, say, a typical Boeing 747, would it work like mass transit where the amount of CO2 would be split between all passengers and therefore be less than driving. Or does driving, because you travel at a much slower speed, really use less fuel per mile?
