I mean, not at all; when they were just black marks on paper, not even words to you. Do you remember how old you were? Or the other way; do you remember when you first realized that those black marks on the paper had a relationship to what people said -- the whole idea behind reading?

  1. Not so much... I remember when I was able to read some and how much I loved it.  We learned on little yellow, laminated books in kindergarten.  I remember having to put some of the words together.

I do remember when cursive writing was a mystery.  My brother and I would look at notes and pretend to cursive write by making what was, in hindsight, a page of cursive "e"s all connected.

  2. Yes, and I remember my mother reading to me.  She read everything she could.

I thought she was amazing, and the most brilliant woman in the world.

I miss her since she passed in March 2002.

  3. no not at all... it was so long ago.. i just cant see how anyone could not read...

  4. i do remember learning to write but not much before that.

  5. I remember the day it all made sense to me.  I was trying to read a book with many words I did not know.  Every time I came to one I didn't know, I asked my dad what it was.  Then I started over again and did the same thing.  I comtinued to read the same book until I knew all the words.  Bless my dad --he never showed any impatience with any of my questions!  From then on, I was a voracious reader.  I soon was reading books above my grade level.

Each of my kids had a favorite book which they learned to read before all the others.

  6. no, but I do remember always reading out loud.... that was the only way I could read.  Until one night I read a whole book, and when I was done, I realized that I hadn't read any of it out loud. I had read it quietly in my head... then I just had to go show my mom... lol

  7. yah, i was like dude.

  8. I don't remember not being able to read, though I know there was a time when I couldn't.  I think I learned the phonics and the whole word way.
