Have you seen the new pictures of starving babies in Ethiopia today?

My question is the parents of this new generation of starving children WERE starving children 20 years ago. Did they not think that the same thing that happened to them would happen to their own children and refrain from reproducing?

Why should i give money to charities such as UNICEF and Save the Children to support their children because these people can't either abstain from s*x, or use condoms.

If you are a left wing liberal who's going to moan and whine about my question, please don't bother.

  1. It goes on and on doesn't it. Somewhere along the line they are not getting the right education. They do not seem to have progressed since year one.

  2. Yes,and it seems it has not ended yet.

  3. No I did not see the pictures of the starving babies in the 1980's. I was too young around then. My parents did see the Live Aid concerts to raise money for these babies.

Without the world stepping in to save them, these people would have perished.

Subsequently, they reproduced themselves on the premise that their children would provide for them in their old age.(which is the main reason to have kids in the developing world)

The parts of Ethiopia they live in are marginally arable and prone to drought. The land cannot sustain such large amounts of people. They would have had to overcome this by developing into modern semi-industrial countries, which they did not do because they were without enlightened leadership.

In other words by helping them with aid in the 80's we helped create a bigger problem this time around.

In developed countries a similar problem has happened, but in reverse. The decline of birth rates in Europe means that there are not enough young people to sustain their economies, drive the buses or look after the old. So migrants move in to fill the vacant spaces.

In the next 25 years the once great Russia will have a population the same as Yemen (an insignificant Arab mini-state) because of the low birth rates, smoking, alcohol and suicides.

So the control of human reproduction one way or the other

    is a dangerous game.

In China, because of the one child policy and the aborting of unwanted female babies, in the next few years there will be 70million young men with no females to marry!

Some kind of social unrest is bound to follow.

So to answer your question about donations to charities. Give your money locally to people you know for things they need. Charity is best close to home.

The equivalent of one month's expenditure on the war in Iraq could feed Ethiopia for the next 30years.And not one person would need to work!

It's a mad world we live in.

  4. oh,yeah and before that and before that.it's always one country or another.

  5. LOL .. I'm in a bind because Logically I can understand where you are coming from....

The human body shuts down ( as in the case of anorexics) it's reproductive system in times of starvation ... women can become infertile for the time... it's a mechanism that evolved thousands upon thousands of years ago .....

Now I think it is a little harsh expecting these people to forego s*x... i mean it is something that they can do ..that derives pleasure .. that is free.. etc.... BUT they should be given more access to birth control.

It is not their fault that they have little access to methods of birth control .. a lot of agencies won't provide them as SOME people claim it is an act of attempted genocide ( preventing the reproduction of another race) .. to some agencies it is against their religious beliefs.

If we provide food .. we're not allowing the natural mechanism of birth control to kick in ..BUT .. ( and here comes the left-wing whiney liberal in me... ) how can we just stand by and let these people starve....

allow their innocent children to die..

If it were up to me .. I'd risk being blamed for attempting genocide ( because I know that WOULD NOT BE WHAT I WAS DOING) and I'd provide free vasectomies ... and the pill and condoms.....

BUT i couldn't NOT give .. I have enough for myself .. not an over abundance .. but enough to help others.
