If you have stepchildren, especially a man with a wife who had a child before you were married, how do you feel about that child financially?

Do you resent having to provide financially for another man's child? Have you provided for that child in your will? Do you fork out the same for your own children and the step child e.g. college fees etc?

I mean more resenting FINANCIALLY i.e. you play with them etc but when it comes to serious money its a pain to think its going to a child not your own biologically.

  1. I had always wondered if my step mom felt this way about me...

i have a soon to be step son and i admit sometimes i do have those feelings...but its on me because i knew my fiance had a son when i met him. Cant take it out on anyone but myself.

  2. yes i sometimes feel that way, my fiancee has daughter, she's a bit of a money pit. unfortunately i do not have any children of my own

  3. If you feel that way than you shouldn't marry a man with children.  I resent step-parents who act like their spouses should re-write history to cater to their spoiled whims.

  4. I have had stepchildren twice.  The first two were ungrateful and I resented them some.  The second two are grateful and I am pleased to help them.

Personally I couldn't care a less about the DNA connection.  They are people, I'm a person.

  5. If the children are financially catered for by the bio parents, you don't have to include them in your will BUT you will take care of some of the smaller needs e.g when you are together with the child, but if there is no one the child looks up to other than the bio parent you live with, there you go-take responsibility of both the mother and the child(ren). BUT discuss with the bio parent and see what way forward. The parent doesn't need help from 2 men, gonna be either you or the bio dad.

    Wishes.

  6. Well, it's a good thing for the man to take care of his children. If I had a child with him, I'd want him to be responsible for them as well.
