Do you run faster with stronger arms?

My arms aren't so strong but I am a distance runnner. Do they help? If so what arm workouts should I do?

  1. Yes arm strength will help with your running.  You need larger weights for greater resistance to increase muscle mass.  Lighter weights will help with endurance but you need larger muscles for longer runs.


  2. I don't think so. In fact, my trainer told me specifically to not move my arms around at all while running so I don't think added muscles would have helped not moving my arms. I could be wrong, but my gut tells me no.

Actually you do run with your arms too, when you run you dont run with your arms out (that isnt that fast and makes you look like an idiot) but when you run your arms kinda pump the rhythm of your running pace, if your arms start to hurt your mind will zero in on it and it'll cause fatigue to your entire body, making it want to rest

  4. for distance runners, you should do a bunch of little weights, since that's what builds endurance. The best thing to do to practice is swim or run.
