  1. Never.  It is a bad idea.  I know of a few people who did - with bad consequences.  Not worth the risk.

  2. One should never go scuba diving alone!

  3. Never.  And you shouldn't either. That's my opinion. Howevever on scubadiving.com the "new rules" of scuba diving are...rule 8

"Every training agency is emphatic on the need to always dive with a buddy. Yet solo diving has long been common, particularly among underwater photographers. Experience, and incomplete statistics, don't indicate that solo diving is more dangerous than buddy diving, and some divers argue that solo diving is actually safer."

  4. Do I?  Occasionally.  The times I have I have a shore spotter.  (Shallow water, doing things like moorings, pond drainage, pool repair)

    Do I prefer to?

No, I'd rather dive with my wife/buddy.

  5. i don't dive solo personally, but i know of several people that do. there are a fair amount of cave divers that dive solo because they feel it is actually more dangerous to have a buddy in some situations since they can take your concentration off of the task at hand. that said, they are guys that have been diving for a number of years and have a tremendous amount of experience. i would recommend that you look into scuba diving internationals solo diver course, if you decide to dive solo the course will help make you more aware of the risks you face  in solo diving and how to solve underwater emergencies without a buddy.
