A Visitor

By C.S. Scotkin

Little green man

In my garden

Telling me

Tales, tongued in Martian,

Lovely stories, never heard on

Earth before.

Glowing tales of Ares’ triumphs,

Recall the heroes;

Engineering feats,

Entire canals fashioned in cool

Noon day sun.

Many more tales will come

Another chapter, Martian history,

New Immigrants will write!

  1. Glad you're getting into Martian "lifeforms" - this is a fertile field - for the imagination to explore. The Martian temperature is pretty "cool" compared to Earth - the average temperature on Mars is about 218 K (-55 C, -67 F), Martian surface temperatures range widely from as little as 140 K (-133 C, -207 F) at the winter pole to almost 300 K (27 C, 80 F) on the day side during summer. I think you meant to say - that the canals were made (erected, etc) during the heat of the day (which at its hottest is no more than 80 degrees). Your use of the word "fashioned" can elude to being "styled" by or "formed" by the cool Noon day sun ♥

  2. very cool. i love the fact that you write about so many subjects and continually amaze me.  id love to meet your little green men!

  3. "Cool/Noon day sun" -- maybe after the planet is terraformed. NASA has plans for that too!!

  4. Bring the green fellow to the communal dome. I have many questions as to how life upon Mars works. I still can't get my water to boil...and don't even talk to me about the state of my brisket.

  5. We like to visit on the Earth,

Green trees are quite a change.

On Mars it's all just dust and rock,

The cows can't graze our range.

If we tell tales of feats so great,

But left out all the bad,

It's all because we don't want you,

To think that we're all bad.

We squandered all the land we had,

    The green all went away,

The air got thin and stayed like that,

    Until this very day.

We built our cities in the ground,

    From pure necessity,

And with your lenses so well made,

    Our culture you can't see.

We wait for those who wish to come,

    And build their crystal domes.

We'll share with them that which we've learned,

And help them make their homes.

So when we visit, treat us well,

    And listen to our tales.

We'll teach you how to get to Mars,

    In ships with solar sails.

  6. Green men visiting you too, I see.  Mine normally comes after the dregs of the wine bottle! lol  This is the start of the "Visitor Tales?"  Sign me up for the next edition.

  7. Sweet poem! That was really cool.

  8. I'm very interested in the 'cool noon day sun' part....

    Welcome story-telling green fellow!
