Do you shred your old checkbooks still if the account is closed?

I have a bunch of old check books from an account that has been closed. I ripped them a few times but if you put the piece of papers together, you could get the account number still. The account is closed so would it be of any use to a criminal?

  1. I burned them

  2. Yes! someone could steal them and use them and who ever accepts them has no idea they are useless Or stolen, but your name is on them and you have to deal with proving that you didn't sign them.

  3. Just shred everything.  It's safer.

  4. the account is closed, so no, they can't do anything with them.

  5. All items of this type should be shredded.

  6. You should shred them, because if someone gets ahold of them, they can still take them and use them somewhere, whether the account is closed or not. They can write the check out and hand it to the cashier, they accept checks either way (they can't check them right away). Once they try to cash it and they find out the account was closed, it will be YOU held responsible, not the criminal.

Whoever gave me the thumbs down: A cashier cannot check to see if the check is bad or useless before they accept it. They accept it assuming it is good. They will only know a check is no good when it gets returned to them by the bank.
