TJ: All morning I've been trying to banish the thought from my mind of you putting your nose in their wet diapers. Thanks for that mental picture. LOL!

  1. OMG love the way my preschooler smells!

  2. yes

  3. I don't have children, but I think it's great that you love their smell!

  4. The most wonderful scent in the world. is the scent of our gifts from God. Very beautiful question. God Blessings to you and your family..

  5. You're not strange I knew children's smell. They each had their own smell. I miss my husbands smell. He is with the Lord now but I knew his smell as well. I kept one of his tea-shirts and I slept with it because it smelled like him so it's not just our children.

  6. My partner said to me just yesterday how he loves the smell of our 16 month old daughter's hair. He loves to just give her a big squeeze and sniff her hair and her neck when they have a cuddle.

You arent strange at all - I think its lovely.

  7. I am sure it is more common than anyone knows. I remember when my children were little, I used to love to cuddle to them and smell the sweet smells. Then when the grandbabies came along, I had to smell them and see that they "smelled like a baby"...Each baby had a different scent, although washed with the smae soaps, shampoos, etc. Gosh, now I really miss my kids being little!!

My grandson is only 3, and he is already aware of his "smell"

He loves to smell good, so my daughter always puts a small dab of mens cologne on him. He is very self aware. But the cool thing is, my daughter is expecting her 2nd in late January, early February!!!

  8. Have a laugh on me on this one: my young adult son almost won't hug me anymore because I cannot -  absolutely cannot - resist inhaling his 'scent' by his neck when we hug.  Just talking about it, I can 'smell' him. (I'm not that bad really, I do it in a very subtle way, but he's really aware of it - it's not like I 'snuffle' - I want to, but I don't).  I loved when he was a baby, a toddler, a little boy - all those years of him snuggling up and 'snuffling' ME - we both enjoyed it.  It was ok when he was shorter than I, as well, cause I could grab a surrepticious 'sniff' every now and again when he'd run up and hug me spontaneously.   Now he's tall and I need a ladder.....

I'm glad you're establishing the 'scent' bond with your 10 month old.  God gave us this wonderful 'sense' for several reasons and this is one of the best, I think.

Oh, and by the way, in my experience, most wives think their hubs are a bit 'strange' in one way or another - strange here is not to be taken as 'bad' - just odd.  (relating to the opening of the Q) - so this, to me, is quite a nice 'strange'.

Thanks for the 'smelly' Q :)

  9. I love kissing my kids up! Especially my youngest who is almost 3 as he still allows me to. (My oldest gets kinda "Mooom!" when I do it)

But yes, their smell is great- and they grow up so fast!!! So I say take in every single moment as they are small....and be sure to LOVE THEM UP BUNDLES!!!!

  10. Unfortunately at the time, I smoked, so my smells had to do more with baby powder, fresh washed linen and of course the regaling diaper!  Those smells today still evoke instant memories.  Good question and it looked like you had some great answers.

  11. Oh my! I love the smell of my children! I was just telling my partner the other day that my year old baby just smells heavenly! I even like the smell of their wet nappies (although I draw the line at poopy ones!).  I could seriously sit and smell their hair and general smell all day long!

  12. Yes, absolutely. So much of modern life today seems divorced from the basics of life. Life can be so busy and mechanical. There is something so primal about babies and small children. Since the beginning of their lives I've loved snuggling up close to my children and sniffing their hair or skin. Even when they were grubby little girls there was a sweet innocence about their smell. I sort of hated to lose that when they began the changes of maturing. It remains a sweet memory of their early years and all the things that went with it - stuffed animals, giggles, talking my ears off, playing in the sprinkler and being goofy. Children are such a gift from God!

  13. Yes!  My two boys (2.5 & 4) smell great!  I love it when they run to me as I kneel and hug me, and I can smell their hair!

I feel viscerally satisfied in such a complete way.

So glad to know that I'm not the only one.

    EDIT: read your additional info....

Don't worry - you can never replace the time that you were not there.  Your call is to love your son dearly.  Forget what is behind and strain onward, boss!  Pray that God would fill you little boy's heart and draw those connections as you lavish your love for him, without a care in the world; as your heart grows closer to him, I have full confidence that God will use that to heal your son's heart, too!

Grace, peace, persistence and God's lavish blessing and mercy be on you and your entire family.

  14. No it isn't strange - it is wonderful.  I used to cuddle my twins to sleep (individually) for their naps and grew to know their smells.  They are 4 now and we still enjoy snuggling up and I love how they smell.  Animals know their young by their scent - we aren't that far removed are we (lol)!!

By the way, congrats on being such a hands-on dad - so few of you around. X

  15. Probably one of the most heart warming posts I have read from a daddy in a while:)

    Smelling the kids:D

I know exactly what you mean.. I remember really loving that newborn scent..there is nothing like it in the entire world and it leaves so quickly.

I just love the sweet smell of my two daughters. The little toe jammy ones from their tiny feet lol. Gosh.. those days sure passed quickly... now their feet are almost in a size 7 shoe.

I remember when my girlies were babies and sticking my nose near their mouths when they yawned.. talk about the sweetest baby's breaths.

The smell of sunshine in their hair after playing in the park. Or that fresh out of bed morning smell..still warm and fuzzy.. gosh I think I am going to cry:(

Each morning I get to enjoy that smell from them... their warm necks as I bury my nose in there to kiss them  awake for school..They are getting older but the sweetness of their smell is so precious and still unique to each one.

May the Lord bless all of our kids.  They are His heritage and our Heavenly Father knows and cares for them so much.. unlike us, He has the hairs on their head numbered:)

    Have a great day brother:)

    Your sis

  16. I know that many parents of small children can't resist taking a sniff of their hair (especially at the nape of their necks). It probably is some sort of bonding. Maybe it is just that they smell so new :)  Warning, this only works with your own kids. Other people's kids just smell dirty. (except for your own grandchildren, so you also have that to look forward to).  Snort away and tell your wife that she doesn't know what she's missing.

  17. MY GIRLS ARE ALL GROWN.. BUT YES I THINK THEY HAVE A WONDERFUL SMELL- ITS AMAZING HOW  YOU CAN BECOME CLOSER DUE TO THAT FACT.. BUT THEN AGAIN ALOT OF IT IS BECAUSE PARENTS KEEP THE KIDS CLEAN SMELLING . WHEN THEY ARE OUT SIDE AND PLAYING AROUND . THEY STILL HAVE THAT AWESOME SMELL THAT A PARENT WILL NEVER FORGET..**hugs to you**

  18. I think smells of our children, especially as baby's are always

close to call on, Even the smells of sickness linger. It surprises me your wife does not share your feelings, Most usual it is the other way 'round. Keep sniffing!

  19. There is nothing better than the smell of a baby sleeping on your chest. I love to smell my kids, but not when they just came in from playing outside. i make them take a bath first.
