sometimes when i watch CNN or something, the news reporter would sometimes say "breaking news" and then follow with some lame story that isnt really important like such and such person is having an affair and things like that.

when i think of the term "breaking news", i think of something very important that it would interrupt whatever else was going on, but half the time its some kind of news about some celeb who probably got arrested or something.

do you find the term "breaking news" to be misleading sometimes?

  1. well breaking news is news theyve just recieve and that they feel will be important to the viewers. they did it on the E! channel many times when paris hilton got out of prison and when brittney spears was going crazy.

and something that is lame to you might not be lame to everyone else in the world so you need to take that into account

  2. "Breaking" is just a term that means the event is unfolding right now.  It could be an event of major importance, or it could be fluffy.  I do think that television stations tend to use it more than necessary, but part of their job is to hold the viewer's attention.

  3. It's the boy who cried wolf type of thing, definitely
