Question:

Do you sometimes feel that sand traps attract your golf balls?

It's almost as if the ball and sand traps or any body of water have some magnetic attraction. Maybe it's because I notice they're there..... maybe nerves. Sandtrap, ball, ball goes into sandtrap.

  1. It's all in your head.

  2. i wouldnt find it hard to belive that the balls have a magnetic atraction and the magnets in the sand -.- lol

  3. Ah, yes- and I've also noticed that the gutters at the bowling alley and the stands behind me on the baseball diamond are similarly equipped !

  4. Golf is a very psychological game. First of all you know that golf courses are set up so that average golfers will hit the traps and the water. You'll also probably note that most golf courses punish people that slice, because that's the most common problem with average golfers.

The other thing is when you're on the tee you're thinking "that trap... stay away from it!!" which almost guarantees that that's where you're going to end up.

  5. Yeah I have had those days but that doesn't happen everytime I mean sometimes I have good days and some days it feels like I can't even miss hitting out of a sand trap...

  6. It depends on the day.  Sometimes I will play several entire rounds with maybe none or one bunker, and then other times I am in the bunker 4 out of six holes.  Fortunately I can play out of the bunkers pretty well so I try not to let it bother me.

  7. It is a scientific fact that sand traps and water hazards have extra gravity.

It's because they tend to be lower than the surrounding land, so they are closer to the center of the earth. Since gravitational force is based on the square of the distance from the center of the earth, sandtraps definitely do have stronger gravity.

Really. I wouldn't make that up.

  8. Not just sand but water, rough, trees, some guys back yard. Yeah I do!

  9. First, traps are bowl shaped and therefore will collect golf balls. Second, they are placed around your intended target so that poor shots will end up in them.  You should improve your ball striking.

  10. Nah it just seems that way because most golf course architects (the good ones anyway) make it so that when you hit the ball anywhere near it, the terrain sends it bouncing in.

  11. no.  I think that water does.  It is proven that water slightly (like maybe a couple of inches) attracts golf balls to it.

  12. I'm sorry, I find it does a lot (either that or I can't golf) and I have to say, that question sounded pretty wyperverted...lol, anyway I think it is that you notice it there, so you are thinking about it, and looking at it, so you instinct fully aim it there.
