Do you sometimes wish your life was decided for you in advance, like in "Brave New World" by A. Huxley?

Job, marriage, place to live... all of it. What if we really could be happier this way? I think we sometimes believe we wouldn't because we think it's confining... but, what if having the decisions made, good decisions, actually made you a better citizen?

  1. When I'm feeling truely depressed, yes, I try to think of options in my head of how I can relieve myself synthetically.  But then I realize that those ideas in my head are absurd and stupid because I wouldn't be living life.  If I acted on what I thought at that moment I would be engulfed in drugs and the worst possible ways of living.  And truely living is all about searching for that stability or homeostasis of the mind and life.

But I love these types of ideas, of dystopias.  I watched Wall-E yesterday and the reason why I liked it a lot was because I got another perspective of how pathetic it would be to live in a world where you couldn't control yourself, your mind.  You couldn't have a choice of how to be happy or how to pollute yourself.

    I like this question a lot :)

  2. h**l NO.  After reading that book, my mom constantly refers to things in the world happening now as "Big Brother".  Ha ha.  Like people tracking you & stuff.  But no way.  What fun would life be if everything was chosen for you??  What would be the point in living?  Life is allllll about choices!

  3. Humans and control.

I object to anyone making such decisions for me regardless of what the goal or intended outcome is. I am a far better judge of what my life should contain. As well as reserving the right to make changes as I see fit along the way.

    Utopian societies are not that.

  4. my life IS decided for my in advance. And I'm just following its patterns. I don't feel like I'm the one who's in control of it/ or making any decisions. My life is like the one's of Oedipus... I can not run away from my destiny!
