Do you still call it Supper?

Question

Back when i was little, my Mom would tell me son sit down and eat your Supper. Nowadays, i just call it lunch. I'm a Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner kinda guy. Speaking of lunch, i had nothing to eat yet!! later!! thanks for your answers always!!

I called it dinner the other night and my fiancee just started laughing at me.  "It's supper, honey, not dinner."  I guess I always called it dinner.  Eat healthy!  LOL

I'm still hear supper and dinner, it doesn't really matter. It just being thankful you have something to eat .

When I was younger my dad used to call it Supper, but now that I'm 22. He calls it dinner, I think it may be a kid thing. :)

According to "The Dictionary of American Food and Drink" by John Mariani:

"Dinner is the main meal of the day. Until the 1820s this was commonly the midday meal, supper being a lighter meal at the end of the workday."

During my Mom's day (She's 85 years old) on the farms of the Midwest it was Breakfast about 6 AM, Dinner (at high Noon, the largest meal of the day) and Supper about 5 or 6 PM. During Harvest Time, a additional meal was taken to the field about 9 AM that they called Lunch because their was so much hand labor in those days the guys needed the 9 AM meal to keep up their stamina. Usually, there was a 1/2 hour rest break (My grandfather slept) after Dinner prior to getting started on the afternoon work.

I don't call it supper but my Grandma ALWAYS says supper. Her famous line is..."What would you like for supper?" However, my Grandma uses the word "supper" in place of the word "dinner", not lunch. But I guess different people use it differently! Hope I helped!

Friends of mine that live in rural areas still use the term "supper".  I laugh a little to myself each time I hear it.

When we eat at home, it's "supper". If we go out to eat, it's "dinner". Strange....
