Do you still get a diploma on homeschool?

I just went on homeschool, thinking that once I completed it, it would sort of be the same thing as finishing highschool, but I got informed by someone else that says you don't get credit for the work you do through the board of education...and it's kind of like dropping out. That you don't get a real diploma that your mother (or whoever is homeschooling you) writes the diploma for you once you've completed the course

  1. Ask your mom to make one for you.  Or  make your own!

    Better go take that GED.

  2. Yes my mom buys them in the from the HSLD.

  3. Iam currently homeschool and i get a regular diploma also i get my class ring. The program that home school me is called jmhs(james madison high school)its located in Norcross, Ga. I dont know what homeschool program u are going to but i get a diploma my mother dont write anything for me go on line and research thats what i did.

  4. It depends on what you do for curriculum.  I graduated from home school in '99 and I use PACE's and received a valid diploma, and continued on to college from there - without problems.

  5. HEY WATCH IT MELISSA. I got my GED due to medical problems and am now in College. A GED will do the same for you that a diploma will you just have to present yourself as NOT A BUM

  6. Yup, only your mother can craft a lovely diploma for you.  Don't worry, though, I understand many colleges are now admitting homeschooled students.

  7. Diplomas are meaningless in the long run,you never show it to anyone to get into college or get a job, if they ask you if you have one, you say yes. It's true, you've completed a course of study, albeit at home, and it's just as legitimate.

As someone mentioned, one of those funny little things that the public schools don't want people to know. It reduces their power, which in turn reduces their funding. Sad isn't it?

BTW...GED says dropout. Homeschooling says higher education.

  8. If you aren't homeschooling through some online program and you are in the US, then yes, your parents provide the diploma. It's no different than a private school providing the diploma. It is NOT like dropping out; it just means you won't have a public school diploma.

Your parents can even give a name to your homeschool and have that on the transcript.

Oh, and you don't need a diploma to get into college. There's always another way.

  9. Unless you're applying for a college that requires an "accredited" diploma, it doesn't matter *who* prints it or signs it.  It's one of those ugly little truths that public schools would rather not get out to the general public.

And to be frank, most colleges and universities don't require homeschooled students to have a "diploma" so long as they have the requisite test scores.  There are thousands of homeschoolers who go on to higher education with a diploma printed out on their home computer.

  10. yes you still get a diploma

My son finished the 8th grade in public school with straight F's and went from that to straight A's and B's being home schooled. Online charter schools are considered the same as public schooling. My son graduated an online charter school and now attends University of Dayton ( a private university ) with scholarships.

Home schooling can work for some. The student needs to be self disciplined enough to do the work and care. Generally less work is involved with an online charter school than in a regular public school. You are also able to work at your own pace. k12 will customize your curriculum and make sure you are where you need to be.

This is the school my other children are now attending,

Depending on where you live they may be a help, if not, there are online charter schools all over.

They will provide you with the computer, printer, supplies and books that you need as well as teachers and academic advisors. This is the same as a public school but ONLINE at home. They will also provide you with teacher to help you by phone and email. They will also help you with any state required testing that needs to be done as well as proficiencies.

If you choose not to use a virtual school , yes you can still purchase k12 products. http://v7.k12.com/independence.html........

  11. My children were home schooled and it seems a lot of places and schools are stating to look on that more favorably than having graduated from a public school.

  12. my son belongs to a program we have diplomas and cerimonies  and that is nonsense you dont get credit of course you do my oldest 26 now, homeschooled and is now in college studing to be a obgyn  i guess it depends on program but of course you get credit otherwise homeschooling would be for nothing

  13. Homeschooled people tend to be more intelligent, but they lack some social skills they would have learned in public school.  I'd assume you'd have to take a test to obtain a diploma, not sure who you'd have to contact.

  14. Your mother can give you a real diploma.  It is just as real as the diploma that the public school could give you.  It has been my experience that it is even more real.  It means that you actually received an education instead of just attending classes and passing tests.

  15. That's bull if I've ever heard it. I was home schooled for all of 4 years of high school and at the end I walked down the aisle with all my other classmates who were home schooled. We all got hats and tassles and diplomas. I guess it all depends on your state and local school district.
