see above link.

A while ago the Canadians were encouraging Brits to emigrate to Canada. Looks like they have similar problems.

  1. Canada is just as safe as anywhere else in the world. Every country has its share of weirdos, psychos, mentals, and just plain evil people.

  2. Yes.

Now lets turn the question around.

How safe is the UK ?

I could point to the " Yorkshire Ripper" case or many others, but just as in this case in Canada, it is  a isolated event.

To be specific, Canada has a lot less crime,  for some very good reasons. The population of Canada is 32 million, while that of the UK is 60 million, so many fewer people.

Secondly, Canada is the second largest country in the world, and the tiny little island of the UK is one of the most overcrowded in the world, right up there with India and China in population density. What  happens  to lab rats that are over crowded ? They  get aggresive  and attack each other. Sound like the UK to you?

Canada has a much more relaxed and friendly attitude . And yes it is safer than the UK is.

    Jim B. Toronto.

  3. An isolated incident on a bus involving an obvious lunatic outside Portage La Prairie is not a typical example of Canadian life.

People outside of Canada think that life in general in Canada is very peaceful but in the cities like Toronto and Vancouver, there is a lot of hardcore violence and gangs, and crime is rampant.

If you want to Emigrate to Canada for a peaceful life, the Maritime Provinces are your best bet, where people live a completely different lifestyle and many people still don't lock their doors.

My opinion is that it all depends where in Canada you want to go!

  4. Yes! Canada is still a safe place to migrate to. This event captured the media because this is really RARE in Canada. In other places, this event will no longer hit the headlines! In my country stabbing and killing are  common crimes. Decapitating the head of victims are no longer that rare!

  5. Yes, I still think of Canada as a safe country. I agree with the statement in the last paragraph. This crime would even be considered out of the ordinary in the US.

  6. omg i heard about that but only in brief detail

just read the link and omg he put on a show too!

lots of indian immigrants in Canada too now i hear over the last 15 years

hmmmm unsure if it is a country i would settle in.

  7. the guy just had a bad day.  Everyone can have a bad day!

  8. I think its a fairly safe place in general I recon. You get nut jobs all over the world that do crazy things like that though. It's probably an isolated incident.

Have a look at the link bellow.

BTW, I'm from South Africa where there are around 50 murders everyday ... this is why I moved to the UK. Canada was one of the places we considered. But got work in UK so that was the clincher.

  9. When comparing cities of likewise population, in developed countries, Canada has an extremely low crime rate. What happened on that bus was a freak occurrence, and you will not find anything else like it in Canada's crime history. Every country has its share of lunatics, and not enough details were available yesterday to determine the reason for why that man snapped. Another interesting bit of info, more Canadians are killed in hunting accidents each year, than in crime where guns were involved.
